The Citrus Park All-Stars fell to Lake Charles, La., 6-1 in Thursday night’s U.S. semifinals at the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pa.
Louisiana right-hander Kennon Fontenot was dominant, allowing just two hits and striking out 11. Citrus Park scored its only run on a wild pitch.
Still, the post-game scene was upbeat for Citrus Park. Manager Joe McGuire expressed pride in his team’s summer, and Louisiana players were equally effusive about the class shown by their opponent.
McGuire said Citrus Park players will arrive in Tampa on Monday about 2:40 p.m. (Continental flight from Newark). There may be a public welcome-home event, perhaps at an area restaurant. More details on that in the coming days.
McGuire also said his team, which already committed to stay through the weekend, may play a consolation game against an international team on Saturday. That wasn’t on the schedule. “But we love to play baseball, and the guys want to do it,’’ McGuire said. “That’s typical of them. I’m proud of the way they handled themselves. We didn’t play well enough to win, but we all grew a lot as people this whole summer. I think that’s what this is supposed to be all about.’’
So long from Williamsport.

I am disgusted and appalled at the actions of the Hawaii base coaches during the title game. Every close play at first and third were influenced by the base coaches jumping up and down waving the save sign. This is an act frowned upon by Little League and actions should be taken. This is a terrible representation of the USA!!!
