Tampa Catholic senior quarterback Christian Green, who led the Crusaders to the state finals two of his three seasons under center, has narrowed his college choices to Florida State and Georgia, coach Bob Henriquez said Wednesday.
The 6-foot-2, 200-pound Green had been considering a third Division-I power, Florida. He even took a visit to the Gators and head coach Urban Meyer earlier this month. But after thinking over his options, Green has decided to eliminate UF from his list of finalists.
“I just don’t think Christian ever felt totally comfortable with Florida,” Henriquez said. “When Meyer spoke with him, he usually talked about him playing quarterback and that’s not the position most people, including Christian, think he’ll play at the next level.”
Green, ranked No. 7 nationally at the “athlete” position by Rivals.com, is projected by most recruiters to be a receiver in college.
Green is taking his last official visit this weekend, to Florida State. One factor that could play in the Seminoles’ favor is that Christian’s older brother, Brandon Green, made a commitment to Florida A&M, which, of course, is also located in Tallahassee. Brandon is a defensive end/linebacker who played last year at Hargrave Military Academy in Virginia.
“That [Brandon attending FAMU] could have some influence but at the end of the day, Christian is going to pick the school that best suits him,” Henriquez said.
Meanwhile, the other star Green at TC, offensive lineman Chaz Green (not related to Christian), is also taking his final visit this weekend. Chaz is headed to Southern California to meet with coach Lane Kiffin—again. Green’s other finalists are Florida and Tennessee, where Kiffin met with Green during his official visit to Knoxville.
