Wauchula lightweight Edner “Cherry Bomb” Cherry KO’d Stevie “Lil’ But Bad” Johnston Wednesday night on ESPN2’s Wednesday Night Fights series. Cherry (24-5-2, 12 KOs) caught Johnson (45-6-1, 18 KOs) with a left jab, immediately followed with a straight right up the middle, ending the fight 2:34 into the 10th and final round.
The second shot forced Johnson’s legs to quit and sent the 35-year-old to the canvass with a thud. It was the third time Johnson went to the floor in the main event held at Camp Lejeune in Jacksonville, North Carolina.
Cherry, who has won two of his last three bouts via a knockout, retains his WBC USNBC lightweight title.
