Chelo Alonzo drumming up possible title fight against Loren Myers

Moments after Brian Chiary lost to Loren Myers Friday night by split decision during the main event of the Ballroom Brawl inside the Westshore DoubleTree, Jose “Chelo” Alonzo exchanged words with Myers. Heated words.

With that victory, Myers (8-12-1, 2 KOs) collected the vacant NBA Intercontinental super middleweight belt, while Chiary (10-9-1, 2 KOs) of New Port Richey moves on, ending his professional boxing career to focus on his livelihood as an EMT.

Now, that debate has spilled over into Cyberspace.

As Myers and Alonzo, who worked Chiary’s corner that night, went back and forth inside the ring, Alonzo (12-0, 7 KOs) made it clear Myers wouldn’t get off easy if he was the opponent.

Alonzo, of Spring Hill, took to Twitter and Facebook.

On Monday, Alonzo tweeted: “Team_Chelo is already working on details on making Alonzo vs Myers…”

Today’s timeline has been much more insightful/entertaining.

According to Alonzo, Myers’ trainer Artis Butler had this to say about a possible bout: “Your so quick to ask for a title fight and you haven’t fought in over ten years. If team Chelo talkin about some good money we can do this. I’m his coach, so let us know. $ green talks in Cali!!!”

Here’s Alonzo’s response: “Well there should be no problem taking the fight then sense I haven’t fought in ten years it should be a easy fight for ya then! Take the fight and be men of your words! I figure it will be all talk on your end! Should be a easy fight & easy money for you then take the fight sign the contract!”

Here’s some background on that, Alonzo beat Alberto Albaladejo in April 2003 by knocking him out in the eighth round. Alonzo later broke his ankle and ventured away from the ring, until returning in February of this year.

After eight years away, Alonzo collected a four-round, unanimous decision victory against Mustafah Johnson.

Alonzo wrapped the conversation this morning by posting: “To artis butler & loren myers my promoters have a nov 11,2011 date scheduled! a offer will be made to team myers…. Im still rusty guys…so it’s up to u… Lets see what type of men are you! Lets see if your words mean something! Fight Night Productions..!”
