Suddenly, the quarterback spot at Tampa Catholic is looking a lot deeper. In fact, the Crusaders are now stronger in three sports.
Mitchell Norden, who developed into a starter at quarterback as a sophomore last season at Chamberlain High and was also a first-team player on the Chiefs’ baseball and wrestling teams, has enrolled at Tampa Catholic, Crusaders head football coach Bob Henriquez confirmed Friday.
Henriquez says the 5-foot-10, 215-pound Norden provides some much-needed depth at quarterback and could wind up at any number of positions for the Crusaders. For now, Norden will be the back-up to returning starter Chivarsky Corbett, who is a sophomore. But Norden’s size, speed and versatility makes him a valuable addition to TC’s roster, Henriquez said.
“He’s the kind of kid you need to find a way to get on the field,” Henriquez said. “He could play a role for us a lot like (former TC standout) Conner Louis did for us last season, where he can play quarterback if we need him there or another position in other situations. He’s an athlete.”
Norden’s father, Neil Norden, says the move to TC was done primarily for academic reasons. He says his son has a weighted grade point average of 4.6. Mitchell Norden also wrestled for Chamberlain at the 189-pound spot and was a starter on the baseball squad at third base or right field.
Last year at quarterback for Chamberlain, Norden completed 40 of 84 passes for 469 yards for three touchdowns.
