Hello from the Trop, where the Mariners’ pitchers are going through some sort of organized drill that involves throwing around Nerf footballs. Interesting.
The Rays open a brief two-game set with Seattle this evening, throwing out a pair of rookies the next two nights. In the opener, Jeff Niemann will look for that elusive 13th win, and Wade Davis will follow tomorrow night.
One side note: If you’re in the mood to flip around with the remote control tonight, be sure to check out ESPN2 starting at 7 p.m., when Durham faces Memphis for the Triple-A championship. Rays minor league pitcher of the year Jeremy Hellickson will be on the mound for the Bulls.
Back here, Carl Crawford is out of the lineup tonight, with Fernando Perez getting the start in left field.
Here’s the full rundown:
Bartlett SS
Kapler RF
Longoria 3B
Zobrist 2B
Burrell DH
Aybar 1B
Navarro C
Upton CF
Perez LF
Niemann P
