Camp Go Round 1

Brett Favre faxed his letter.  Warren Sapp is thinking about it.  Mike Alstott won’t be far behind.  Shoot, even LeRoy Selmon was seen wandering around One Buc Palace.  Everybody wants a chance to play with number 4.  I say, ugh!  Let’s talk about what matters - the 80 players who are fighting for 53 positions to be YOUR Tampa Bay Buccaneers.  I see that my British friend has surfaced with a season preview of the running back position.  Let me offer these thoughts from my vacation-stead in the mountains of western North Carolina - another place where funny English is spoken.

Earnest goes for a thousand.  I am thrilled that E.G. is paid and back in the fold.  He deserves the starting job.  Michael Bennett will be a great change of pace back, no doubt.  I disagree with the English gentlemen about Warrick Dunn.  Forget the sentimental garbage, I’ve watched people underestimate Warrick Dunn all the way back to his Florida State Seminole days.  He will be a great pass-catching back and he’ll still make some folks look foolish on highlight reels.  Mark my words.

I am not sure I believe that Cadillac Williams will be a factor for us this season.  I really think the I.R. is on the horizon for him.  Why rush him back with the stable of backs we’ve got?  The other halfbacks all deserve a look, but the numbers game will do them in unless they light it up on Special Teams.  That’s the reality in the NFL.

We will be in good shape with B.J. Askew and Byron Storer at fullback.  Oh, and Warren Sapp, when he sends his letter into the Commish for reinstatement.  Forget the D-Line.  He’s catching passes out of the backfield from Brett!
