Carl Crawford arrived this morning and immediately went to work.
He asked if he could do his media thing later. Sure.
C.C. will be asked about his contract and the trade speculation. It will be interesting to see how he handles that this season since this is the first time he will experience that type of drama during his career.
B.J. Upton was asked Sunday about what we might expect from Crawford this season, given all the off-field issues that will follow C.C. through the year.
“No different from any other (year),” Upton said. “I don’t know how much better he can get. We know Carl’s going to be there. He’s not the guy we’re worried about on this team. We know he’s going to be here for 162 (games), we know he’s going to come to play and we know he’s going to play well.”
Elliot Johnson also reported. The infielder’s name is never mentioned by Rays manager Joe Maddon or G.M. Andrew Friedman when they talk about the infield, specifically second base.
Johnson is out of options so he knows something will happen. He said he’s not worried, though he admits the “unknown” about where he will begin the season is a concern.
Pat Burrell, show showed up Sunday afternoon, said he’ll talk after his workout.
Still to report: Carlos Pena, Sean Rodriguez and Ben Zobrist.
