By the Numbers: Hillsborough County playoff football

0 Times Tampa Bay Tech has advanced to the regional finals. The Titans host Gaither Friday night in the Class 7A regional semifinals for a spot in the finals against the winner of the Kissimmee Osceloa-Lakeland game. The past three seasons, Tech has been bounced from the playoffs in the semifinals.

1 Point difference the last time Hillsborough defeated Armwood. The Terriers defeated the Hawks 21-20 during the regular season in 2005. Since 2003, when Armwood won its first state championship, the Hawks own a 10-1 record in their series with Hillsborough, including nine in a row.

6 Times Armwood has given up more than 30 points in 123 game since 2003. The Hawks had to come from behind to defeat Bradenton Lakewood Ranch 35-31 in Friday’s 6A regional quarterfinal. It was only the second time in those 123 games when they’ve allowed more than 30 points that Armwood won. The other time was the Hawks 36-35 victory against Miami Booker T. Washington in the 2004 state semifinals en route to their second state title.

11 Touchdowns scored by Berkeley Prep opponents this season, including one by Frostproof in the Bucs 41-6 Class 3A regional semifinal victory. That’s an average of only one touchdown per game. In contrast, Bucs all-everything Nelson Agholor has scored 32 touchdowns this season, including three he scored in Friday night’s win.

48 Average points per game for Plant in seven-consecutive first-round playoff victories. The Panthers added to that total Friday night with a 54-21 Class 8A regional quarterfinal victory against Orlando Boone. Four of those scores were the result of the combination of quarterback James Few to wide receiver Austin Aikens.

21-7 Score of Jesuit’s victory over Robinson in Week 3 this season. It’s also the exact same score of the Knights victory over the Tigers in last year’s 3A regional finals. The two teams meet again Friday night for a shot in the 5A regional finals to face the winner of the Pasco-North Marion game.

2007 Last time Gaither advanced to the regional semifinals. The Cowboys defeated Sickles that year and this year, the came from behind to beat Durant 38-30 to get to the second round. Gaither quarterback Alex McGough threw three touchdowns in the second-half comeback after completing just one pass for five yards in the first half.
