Burress Gets Adjournment; Now Bucs Must Decide

TAMPA – The attorney for troubled wide receiver Plaxico Burress did what he expected to do Monday and got Burress’s felony gun case adjourned until September.

The adjournment means a trial probably won’t take place until after the 2009 NFL season and opens the door for Burress to play in the NFL in 2009, assuming a team decides to sign him.

The Jets, Bears and Bucs are believed to be among the teams that have expressed interest in possibly signing Burress, but as we told you over the weekend the Bucs may be losing some interest.

Though Bucs coach Raheem Morris has said he’d like to have a player of Burress caliber on his team, there are some inside the walls at One Buc Place who aren’t totally in favor of signing the former Giant.

His troubled past is one reason the Bucs may hesitate to sign Burress, but it’s not the only reason. Another reason is his age. Burress will turn 32 in August, and that age, Burress may simply be too old for the Bucs.

It’s not that the Bucs have gone full-blown youth movement, but this is a team that has pretty much gotten out of the business of signing 30-something-year-old free agents.

Throw in the fact Burress, if convicted on the gun charge, may only play one year for the team that signs him and this looks like a risky move the Bucs may want to pass on making.

That said, the Bucs are definitely in the market for another wide receiver and their desire to be a contender this season could lead them to take this risk after all. We’ll just have to wait and see.

I don’t care and don’t want to hear about PLAX not being able to practice everyday because Galloway did the same thing and did nothing on game day towards the end of his career. All I want is for us to sign PLAX and catch the ball in the redzone we have Bryant and K2 which will make them more open with PLAX on the field
