BALTIMORE—Pat Burrell got ejected yesterday, arguing a checked-swing call he knew was correct on the umpires’ part.
It sounded today like he just needed to vent a bit, given all he has gone through this season and the misery of the last two weeks for the team as a whole.
“It was frustration,” Burrell said. “A good team like we are, to see the way things have shaped up the last two weeks, it’s frustrating and it’s embarrassing and there’s no other way to say it.”
We’ll have more from Burrell later tonight on TBO.com and in tomorrow’s Tribune, but his answer to a question about what word he would use to describe his season sums it up:
“It’s just, plain and simply, not good enough,” he said. “That’s the way I look at it. You can get creative with all the words and stuff, but at the end of the day, you just haven’t done good enough.”
