Berkeley Prep rising junior volleyball standout Jordan Burgess will not compete in this summer’s Youth Olympics in Singapore due to an error, her mother Dee Burgess said.
Dee Burgess said she was informed Thursday night that the “NORCECA Continental Volleyball Chairmanships working with the Federation of International Volleyball (FIVB) somehow awarded the bid to attend the Youth Olympic Games to the wrong age group of athletes”. Burgess helped the U.S. Youth National Volleyball team win the NORCECA Girls Youth Continental Championship in Guatemala City on May 2, which, according to USA Volleyball, automatically qualified the team for the first International Olympic Committee’s Youth Olympics to be held in August.
Burgess did say the team will still compete in the 2011 International Volleyball Federation’s Girls Youth World Championship in Turkey.
