Berkeley Prep senior outside hitter Jordan Burgess, who tonight will attempt to lead her team to a third consecutive state title, has been named the Class 4A Girls Volleyball Player of the Year by Florida Dairy Farmers.
Burgess was named Miss Volleyball, which goes to the overall top player in the state, last year.
This season, Burgess, who has signed with Stanford, has led the No. 6 nationally-ranked Buccaneers with 538 kills, 353 digs, 48 aces and 30 blocks.
Burgess is again a finalist for the Miss Volleyball award. Teammate and Berkeley Prep senior setter Mackenzie Dagostino finished second in total votes for 4A player of the year.
Berkeley Prep head volleyball coach Randy Dagostino, who was named overall Coach of the Year last year by the Florida Dairy Farmers, was named 4A Coach of the Year and again, is a finalist for 2011 Coach of the Year.
Berkeley Prep is 29-2 and will face No. 8 nationally-ranked Orlando Bishop Moore tonight in the 4A final at 8:05 p.m. The match will be aired live on Bright House and the FHSAA will also live-stream the match here
In Class 8A, Plant senior setter Maren Douglas finished third in total votes for Player of the Year while Tampa Prep junior hitter Katie Krueger finished second in votes for 3A Player of the Year.
