SYRACUSE, N.Y.—Apologies for some information delay through the third quarter. There was—ahem—some technical difficulties here at the Carrier Dome.
But now we’re back.
And the University of South Florida Bulls are rolling, rolling, rolling, leading 34-13 in the fourth quarter.
The Bulls got an 85-yard touchdown pass from B.J. Daniels to Carlton Mitchell on the second half’s first play from scrimmage. Then there was a Mike Ford 5-yard touchdown on fourth-and-1. Finally, a Jason Pierre-Paul interception return of 18 yards.
Syracuse has committed SEVEN turnovers, tying the record for most takeaways by a USF defense (against Louisville in 2007 and Houston in 2002). Orange quarterback Greg Paulus has thrown five interceptions.
Looks like USF has discovered quite the nice formula for victory. Ferocious pass-rush. Ball-hawking DBs. Daniels, a cool-cat freshman, making the big plays under pressure. Play-makers all around on defense.
The Bulls are on their way to 5-0, heading into the huge Oct. 15 home game against No. 10-ranked Cincinnati.
