University of South Florida fans, can’t spell “disgusted” without SI. If you had problems with my preseason Associated Press vote putting Pitt in front of USF, you’re certainly not going to like Sports Illustrated magazine’s preseason Top 20.
USF was not ranked in SI’s Top 20, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer, while Pitt was No. 19. Other teams of interest: No. 14 West Virginia, No. 15 Kansas and No. 20 Oregon. SI only ranks the top 20 teams and not the Top 25. Last season, SI ranked USF No. 25
Here is SI’s Top 20:
1. Georgia
2. Ohio State
3. USC
4. Missouri
5. Florida
6. Oklahoma
7. Auburn
8. Texas Tech
9. LSU
10. Wisconsin
11. Clemson
12. Tennessee
13. Texas
14. West Virginia
15. Kansas
16. Arizona State
17. BYU
18. Oregon State
19. Pittsburgh
20. Oregon

USF is #21 on the SI List. They have the full 1-119 listing on the website. Strange that SI went with a top 20 instead of a top 25.

I think Pitt is getting a lot of undeserved love

Who cares what the pre-season rankings are; it doesn’t matter until December 15th.

"more than one reasonably successful season?”
3 consecutive bowl appearances, 9 out of 11 seasons with a .500 record or better, 8 of those with at least 7 wins.
Wow, we’ve got a treat here...a chance to see an internet troll up close and personal. Go ahead a take a picture of it, but please don’t feed it…

Michael, it’s not a news story. It is a post on a blog. It will be one sentence in Wednesday’s Tampa Tribune, not a “news story.” Every year I’ve listed where USF has been ranked by SI because they infamously ranked USF second to last in the nation several years ago (I think 116 of 117 schools) and all USF did that season was go 8-3. I found it surprising that USF has been ranked in nearly every Top 20-25, but was overlooked by SI.

Maybe the reason is that USF IS a top 20 pre-season team with quality wins and a good number of experienced players coming back with a favorable home schedual. just maybe! 9-4 is mediocrity? 6-6 7-6 is mediocrity. Define mediocrity genious

Why is a news story that USF isn’t ranked? Do you want to draw attention to mediocrity? The polling process is unfortunate because it takes 5 or 6 wins for people to take you seriously but only 1 loss to drop you.
But further USF needs more than one reasonably successful season before anyone should expect a preseason Top 20 ranking.

I guess for the magazine they only did previews/features of the Top 20 teams, so USF just missed the cut.
