The USF men’s basketball team owned a six-point lead at the half against South Carolina on Friday night, but the Gamecocks stormed back in the second half to deal the Bulls their first loss of the season, 69-66, in the second round of the Charleston (S.C.) Classic.
USF (3-1) led 35-29 at halftime, but South Carolina (4-0) used a 20-8 run to open the second half to seize control from the Bulls. USF remained within striking distance, trimming South Carolina’s lead to 58-55 with less than two minutes remaining. But that was as close as USF would get until Dominique Jones’ 3-pointer at the buzzer.
Gus Gilchrist led the Bulls with 19 points, Jones added 17, and Jarrid Famous scored 16.
