The University of South Florida has added another big commitment to its football recruiting class, getting a verbal pledge Orlando Olympia High senior defensive tackle James Hamilton, a previous Florida State commit who is regarded as one of the state’s top prospects.
Both Noles247.com and USFNation.com reported late Tuesday that Hamilton, who is is 6-foot-4 and 330 pounds, had backed off his commitment to the Seminoles and chosen to play for the Bulls. He is rated as a 4-star recruit by ESPN.com (both Rivals.com and Scout.com rates him a 3-star recruit) and both the Orlando Sentinel and ESPN.com rank him as the state’s 52nd best prospect. Hamilton also held offers from Clemson, Illinois, Michigan State and Texas A&M, among others.
Hamilton becomes USF’s 12th reported commitment for the 2012 class. He is the third defensive lineman in the group, joining Daphne (Ala.) High’s Eric Lee and Fort Lauderdale Community School’s Daniel Perry, but first defensive tackle.
