USF opened Big East play Wednesday night at Louisville, and for a while the Bulls (10-3) looked capable of an upset.
Then the second half started with a 15-0 Louisville run. Game over.
The Cardinals (10-3) stormed out for the second half to win their 10th consecutive game over the Bulls, 73-52, after leading only 32-31 at halftime.
USF was led by former King High standout Toarlyn Fitzpatrick, who scored 12 points and 10 rebounds.
USF guard Dominique Jones, trying to pick up the scoring slack in the absence of injured forward Gus Gilchrist, fouled out with more than 12 minutes left. Meanwhile, guard Justin Leemow, who has been away from the team for several days, did not play due to Coach Stan Heath’s decision.
Leemow did rejoin the team in Louisville and participated in pre-game warmups, but he did not play after returning late from a family matter in New York.
