Paul Delaney hit two free throws with 14.5 seconds left in overtime to give Alabama-Birmingham a 78-77 win over South Florida on Wednesday night.
South Florida (3-2) took a 77-75 lead with 3:03 to play in overtime after Jesus Verdejo scored five-straight points. He finished with 26. But the Blazers (5-2) would score the final three points of the game, all on free throws.
The Blazers sank 20 of 31 free throws, while the Bulls hit 12 of 20.
Lawrence Kinnard scored 20 to lead the Blazers, and Delaney added 16.
Verdejo scored a game-high 26 points, hitting 6 of 12 3-pointers, to lead the Bulls. Dominique Jones added 15 for South Florida.
The Bulls, who led by eight points at halftime, were up 67-54 with 5:59 to play in the second after Verdejo hit a 3-pointer. The Blazers outscored South Florida 18-5 the rest of the way to tie it at 72 at the end of regulation.

Bob,
No, but I was following it on the GoUSFBULLS.com Livechat and play by play on Yahoo. I guess the foul calls could have been horrible but I doubt it.

CONTINUED:
O.K., Jones missed 2nd FT to go up by 4 with 20 secs. left in reg. BUT, he fouls the uab player on a LAYUP when usf is still up by 3. uab converts the ft, then OT.
O.K., A. Williams missed two ft’s with 20 secs left in OT but usf is still up by 1. BUT, usf fouls the uab player with about 14 seconds left in ot. Of course, he hits both and usf misses final shot and lose by 1.
THAT IS ABSURD, SOMEBODY BACK ME UP. They miss the ft’s (same REALLY old story) so they are tired. BUT 2 incredibly stupid fouls. WHAT’s UP WITH THAT?

This is the most disappointed I have ever been. Do the players’ think at all or is Heath a horrible coach?
SAME OLD STORY!! 1. Missed free throws. 2. After missing a ft to go up by 4, Jones, with 20 seconds left in regulation, he fouls the UAB player on the layup, they they tie the game.
3. A. Williams missed two free throws that would put usf up by three late in ot. 4. usf is STILL up by 1 in ot with 14 seconds left and they foul the uab player.
5. As it has been for 35 years (except 2-3 times), usf cannot hit a game winning bucket as time expires.
SOMEBODY BACK ME UP, B/C I AM A FAN THAT GAME MADE ME SICK. HEATH AND/OR PLAYERS GAVE AWAY THE W.

Joan and A Cutrono, unfortunately the game went into overtime and ended after our deadline. We were able to get the game result into some of our late editions, but not all home subscribers receive those editions. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Why no coverage today? This is a team on the rise lets give them some support so they can gain local fans other than students and alumni.

No coverage/stats in the Trib today....why? Not all fans have computers.

Brett,
Have you spoken to anybody on the usf basketball squad about their atrocious decision making at the end of the game in regulation & OT?
