Bulls could be without four starters

USF could be without at least four starters for Thursday’s game at Cincinnati.

Senior LB Brouce Mompremier (head/neck), senior RT Marc Dile (foot), sophomore RB Mike Ford (ankle) and sophomore TE Trent Pupello (concussion) didn’t practice at all this week or only sparingly this week.

All were injured at Louisville last week.

Mompremier, who returned against Syracuse Oct. 18 after suffering a neck injury at Florida International on Sept. 20, left last week’s UL game after getting hit in the head.

Mompremier wasn’t even allowed to wear a helmet during Tuesday’s practice. USF coach Jim Leavitt would not answer questions about player availability for Thursday, but hinted USF could be without another player for the rest of the season.

“I won’t comment on injuries,” Leavitt said. “That’s it for me. We might do some releases here and there on things if it’s a permanent thing or something that’s a long-term thing.”

With Dile limited in practice, freshman Jeremiah Warren worked with the first-team offense. He has played in five games this season with no starts.

Bob, Pupello has started two games this season, his only year at USF. Ford has one start this season and five in his two years at USF.

Mompremier is done for good…you can tell by the way CJL avoided the direct question. I just hope he hangs ity up before some long term damage is done.

Chris, good read. I do think Mompremier is done for good. It’s one thing not to practice - it’s another to be out there without a helmet. It’s unfortunate because Mompremier is such a good kid and solid character guy.

Brett , perhaps they can make him a grad. assistant in the future. It’s obvious he loves the game to put so much at risk to try and come to help the team.

Brett:  Why isn’t Taylor playing more at RB?  I’m guessing it’s the fumbles he’s had, but he has the best mix of power & speed in my view.

Also, if you can bend CJL’s ear, one thing we don’t do well is leave a dump or safety valve for Grothe.  He takes too many sacks or dumps the ball, when all it takes is for an RB to block & release in the flat for a dump.  I’ve seen too many plays where Grothe’s in trouble, and we’ve got 3-4 WRs 15-20 yds downfield.  Give me some varied, moving targets.
