NEWPORT, R.I. It’s a big day for USF and the rest of the Big East football programs, which are here for the annual Big East Media Day.
The event kicks off this morning at 9 a.m. USF coach Skip Holtz is joined here by two senior Bulls players, offensive guard Jeremiah Warren and cornerback Quenton Washington.
I had a short advance on media day in today’s Tampa Tribune. In it, I mentioned the scheduled release this morning of the Big East media poll.
I’ll be updating what’s going on at the event on Twitter at @TBO_USFBulls, so be sure to follow, and I’ll come back tonight with a full report.
And I’ll also post how I voted in the Big East media poll as well.
A couple other USF related notes to pass along:
—- The football program could get some good news today, as Jupiter High quarterback Tyler Cameron, considered one of the state’s top 2012 prospects at his position, is scheduled to announce his college decision. Cameron has USF among four finalists, with LSU, Purdue and Illinois the others.
—- A tough break for former USF receiver Dontavia Bogan, who announced on his Twitter page on Monday that an MRI revealed he suffered a torn ACL during a recent practice with the San Francisco 49ers, who signed him as an undrafted free agent.
—- The women’s soccer team’s 2011 schedule was released. The Bulls home match Sept. 22 against defending national champion Notre Dame will be aired live on FOX Soccer as part of the NSCAA College Game of the Week.
—- Former USF baseball player Kevin Quackenbush picked up a second All-American honor after a big final season as the Bulls closer in 2011, earning honorable mention honors from CollegeBaseballInsider.com.
Quackenbush is now in the pros in the San Diego Padres farm system and has gotten off to a great start. He earned a promotion to Class A Fort Wayne after dominating in the short-season Northwest League, and he’s continued to be impressive in his latest stint in the Midwest League, tossing a scoreless inning in each of his first three appearances.
