Desperate for point guard depth, the University of South Florida signed Justin Leemow, of Brooklyn, N.Y.
Last year Leemow was rated as the 110th best junior recruit in New York City by Hoopscooponline.com.
“We are excited to have Justin join us for the 2008-09 season,” USF coach Stan Heath said in a statement. “He is a true point guard who will give us added depth in the backcourt.”
Leemow spent the past season at Mt. Zion Christian Academy in Durham, N.C., averaging 13.5 points, four assists and two steals on the post-graduate team.
Prior to Mt. Zion, he spent two years at The Patterson School in Lenoir, N.C. and two years at Xaverian High School in Brooklyn.
Leemow will join G Gaby Belardo, C Augustus Gilchrist, F Eladio Espinosa and junior C Alex Rivas Sanchez as part of the incoming recruiting class. Junior G Mike Mercer, a transfer from Georgia, will become eligible in December at the end of the fall semester.
