Hillsborough County:

Bullock Helps Harwich Win Cape League Title

Former Riverview High standout Billy Bullock recently helped the Harwich Mariners win the Cape Cod Baseball League World Series, the first league title for Harwich in 21 years.

Bullock, now a right-handed pitcher at the University of Florida, didn’t see any action in the two-game championship series sweep of the Cotuit Kettleers, but pitched arguably his best game of the season to help put Harwich in the final series.

Bullock threw nine shutout innings, yielding just five hits while striking out two, in a start against the Orleans Cardinals. The Mariners eventually won 1-0 in 18 innings, a win that capped a two-game playoff sweep of Orleans.

Bullock performed well throughout the summer, posting a 2-2 record with a 3.40 ERA and 30 strikeouts in 45 innings pitched.

Bullock was one of a handful of locals to play this summer in the prestigious Cape League, which is home to some of college baseball’s most talented players.

Former Durant standout Carmine Giardina, a left-handed pitcher who recently transferred from UCF to the University of Tampa, spent the entire season with the Chatham A’s and performed well as a middle reliever, going 1-3 with a 3.48 ERA and 28 strikeouts in 31 innings pitched.

Former Plant standout Dylan Brown, now at Oklahoma State, and former Pasco standout Robbie Shields, now at Florida Southern, also spent time with the Chatham A’s and Cotuit Kettleers, respectively, but each saw their summers cut short due to injury.
