USF is ranked No. 6 in Sunday’s AP Poll and No. 9 in the USA Today coaches poll. To paraphrase Jack Buck, “I can’t believe what I just typed.”
The Bulls shot up from No. 18 after Friday’s 21-13 win against No. 5 West Virginia. The Bulls also benefitted from Upset Saturday when No. 3 Oklahoma, No. 4 Florida, No. 7 Texas, No. 10 Rutgers and No. 13 Clemson all lost.
The AP’s Top 10: 1. LSU, No. 2 USC, No. 3 California, No. 4 Ohio State, No. 5 Wisconsin, No. 6 USF, No. 7 Boston College, No. 8 Kentucky, No. 9 Florida, No. 10 Oklahoma. The rest of the Big East: No. 13 West Virginia, No. 20 Cincinnati, No. 21 Rutgers.
The coaches Top 10: 1. USC, No. 2 LSU, No. 3 California, No. 4 Ohio State, No. 5 Wisconsin, No. 6 Boston College, No. 7 Florida, No. 8 Kentucky, No. 9 USF, No. 10 Oklahoma. The other Big East schools: West Virginia fell to No. 12, Rutgers fell to No. 21 and Cincinnati shot up to No. 24.
Jeff Sagarin’s computer ranking, one of the computer polls used in the BCS, has USF ranked No. 3. Let me repeat that: Sagarin has USF ranked No. 3.

That is incredible and well deserved! Congratulations to Coach Leavitt, his staff (the ones who didn’t defect and the new ones), the players, the students (current and former), the city of Tampa and Bulls fans worldwide! Let’s keep it moving forward! Go Bulls!

My wife and I attended the game Friday evening and were amazed by the crowd support for the Bulls. The noise level was constant and deafening. As much as I hate to say it, The Bulls appear to be the new “beast of the east.” Congratulations on a great game.

As a season ticket holder it was great to see the huge USF crowd at the WVU game. The noise was deafening during the entire game. Brett, why don’t you get Tampa Tribune to get some USF cowbells made and sell at the game, so it can be even louder..Can cowbells be taken into Ray-Jay? Check out the following site for ordering cowbells www.cowbell-central.com
One last note Tampa PD are a bunch of idots, as usual. Some things will never change in TAMPA. Why arrest and hit fans after a big win???

I was wrong in almost all my picks to Brett’s contest questions this week ... but I don’t care. Here in Atlanta, I went out to eat this morning and got several comments for the USF shirt I was wearing. I love what is going on and we are freakin’ #6 in the AP (forget the USA Today Poll - how dare they rank Florida ahead of us??) Aside from my graduation day, I have never been so proud to be a Bull. Go Bulls!!!

Hey Brett, how does it feel to be covering the #6 team in the country?
Unreal.

This is freaking amazing. I don’t know what else to say. We were never ever ranked until 2 weeks ago and now we are in the top 10. We are the highest ranked team in the state of Florida.
If we cut out the silly mistakes every week this team can play with anyone in the country.
I went into the year thinking we would have a good year and get to a nice bowl and keep building a foundation. We might end up blowing up the foundation of college football and shocking the world if we can run the table.

No cowbells please. They’re the Bulls not the Cows.
Great victories versus WV and Auburn. Can’t take FAU lightly next Saturday. Need to go 6-0 into the Rutgers game. In my opinion, toughest foe will be Cincinnati.
Go Bulls from Class of ‘83 alumnus.

Enjoy it while it lasts… it’ll all be over when UCF comes to town. USF is no Texas. The Knights will be fine tuned.
Take a lot of picture, Bulls fans, it won’t last.

I have to echo Chris’ comments - I thought this would be a good year, but SERIOUSLY!! SIXTH in the AP??!!! I was so proud to see the turnout at the Friday night game too!! I hope these heady poll numbers don’t get to the players’ heads—I know the coaches will do everything possible to keep them focused on FAU.
Won’t the UCF team be gunning for us too, to gain themselves some respect?
As an older alum who graduated over 20 years B.F. (before football), I want to thank Coaches Leavitt, Burnett and all the rest; and thanks to all you players - keep hitting hard, playing smart and bullieving!
GO BULLS!!

Man that’s great. But makes me nervous as $%^$ for the guys. Now comes expectations and the big target on the back. I guess the city can enjoy this today, and the bulls can get back to work tomorrow if not today. The coach said it best, time to get ready for FAU and nothing else.

As a staunch college football fan (I’m a Ramblin Wreck from Georgia Tech) I came to this site just to read about the excitement you all must feel!!! Wow. #6 Well deserved and well earned. I watched you Friday night. very impressed. Good luck the rest of the way.

You know what? I’ve been in Iraq a year and right now the Bulls are making these last three months fly by! I watched the game at 4 a.m. local time Saturday in Baghdad.
They later showed the highlights in the DFAC (dining facility) on the FOB Saturday afternoon. I can’t describe the pride I had in seeing MY USF Bulls getting all the love and attention. So much for the “where’s USF? what’s USF?” questions, haha!!! Great job coach Leavitt and best of luck for the rest of the season. This team deserves it. By the way, love the blogs and updates Brett. Go Bulls!!!

Greg, it’s really the same for me, except a lot of folks around town are a lot more interested in what we’re writing about USF now. As evidenced by at least 6 or 7 front page stories last week in the Tribune. Also, a lot more radio hosts are interested about USF. Before last week’s game with West Virginia, I did 10 radio shows, including two in Miami, two in West Virginia and one in Nashville.

I love the Bulls and am a lifetime USF amumni association member…but #6 in the nation? Jeez, the polls are setting USF up for a possible BCS Championship game appearance if we can run the table…as incredible as that seems.
Just speechless when I saw the ranking come out.

I’m a USF 98 grad and was one of about 20 students to run the very first football to the very first USF game against Kentucky Weslyan. At the time I hoped USF would one day be able to compete for the Division IAA (now known as the Sub Division) championship title…. Never in my wildest dreams did I thinkjust 10 years down the road the Bulls would have an outside shot at a Division IA NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP!!!!
GO BULLS!!!

The Bulls are playing great and deserve the #6 ranking but I can’t help but be nervous about our kicking game! After what happened against Auburn and then to start out the game Friday night against the hillbilly’s missing the 1st field goal I can only hope we don’t have to count on Alvarado to come in with the game on the line and make the kick…..

I just returned from Dick’s Sporting Goods in Brandon and there were racks of Gator, Seminole and even Miami clothes as well as chairs, coolers, etc. Where was all the BULLS stuff? Win or not, this is Tampa, home of the Bulls and the University of South Florida. Retailers need to support this teams too! Come on Tampa Bay Area, support the BULLS!

Hey Jeremy Agraz, what are you smoking? UCF won’t be able to keep up with the Bulls no matter where they play. If USF keeps their heads on straight and plays disciplined ball, they could run the table. Cincy at home, Rutgers on the road could be tough ones, but they could be 10-2, or even 11-1.
I too am a USF alumnus B.F. (Before Football, class of ‘82)and I’m proud as could be of my alma mater. Vamos los Toros!
