MOBILE, Al. – Here’s the latest on the Bucs search for a new receivers coach and a new quarterbacks coach.
Terry Shea is definitely a candidate for the QB coach’s spot. He’s currently working with Sam Bradford in Pensacola and may be the coach the Bucs plan to interview officially once they return to Tampa.
As for the receivers coach, Keenan McCardell isn’t talking about that issue, but he’s here at the Senior Bowl and the scuttlebutt here is that he has been granted an interview.
Fellow former Bucs receiver Ike Hilliard is here, too, and while he has been granted an interview for a receivers coach’s position, the interview was not with the Bucs.
Hilliard has talked with the Bucs but he has yet to be granted an official interview by them.
One thing to keep in mind is the possibility that the Bucs may see McCardell and Hilliard fitting in better as offensive assistants because of their lack of experience as hands-on coaches.
Whether McCardell or Hilliard would be willing to accept that kind of a reduced role is uncertain, but both are aware that they may have to pay some dues before a team takes them on as full-blown, hands-on assistant coaches.
