TAMPA - The Bucs just wrapped up their first offseaon workout, but the end didn’t come soon enough for LB Matt McCoy.
McCoy left the field early after apparently cutting his right hand during a drill. He later returned but didn’t participate in the 11-on-11 drills.
The biggest surprise of the workout was probably the presence of WR Joey Galloway. Galloway was expected to miss most of the offseason workouts because he is recovering from offseason shoulder surgery, but he participated in the early individual portion and even caught a few passes.
To no one’s surprise, Chris Simms didn’t make it out. Simms, who the Bucs are believed to be trying to trade, is working out on his own and may not even take part in the team’s mini camp later this summer.
Simms wasn’t the only no-show. QB Brian Griese, RB Earnest Graham and LT Luke Petitgout didn’t show either. Griese was said to be tied up with a charity event and couldn’t get away for this week’s workouts. Graham’s absence wasn’t explained and Petitgout is recovering from season-ending knee surgery.
Two players who are also recovering from surgeries but did work out on their own were RB Cadillac Williams and LB Cato June. Williams spent some of his time doing a plow-horse drill in which he ties himself to a harness and pulls a Bucs trainer behind him as he walks forward.
One of the best plays of the day was turned in by S Tanard Jackson. Jackson, wearing 36 now instead of the 28 he gave to Warrick Dunn, picked off a pass that Michael Clayton failed to handle as a he ran a slant route.

Tanard Jackson is a huge part of why our Defense was so good in the secondary last year. I expect it will be more of the same this year. Hitting people like he’s John “freakin” Lynch out there.

Surely we can offer a team “Simms and Clayton” both for one productive player.Maybe for a great special teams player or something “anything.”
And also that would be nice to see Parris Warren come back from that injury. He was on his way on being a great reciever for us. That was disheartning when he got hurt.
Can’t wait for the draft “Go Bucs”

AGREED Kinzer, when will the Bucs just cut our losses with Clayton. I realize he’s been injured almost every year, but the guy simply CAN’T CATCH!!!!

I agree with Patrick. I think that Parris Warren will turn some heads this year. He will be back and be the #2 receiver. Stovall will do nothing but get better. THe jury is out on Bryant, but if he can relive the past then lookout.

i honestly feel parris warren, stovall and bryant are really going to surpise alot of people this year...i dont agree with a wideout in free agency...sub par recievers getting huge contracts...we were smart not to go into the money trap...this team took almost 5 yrs to get out of the cap trouble we were in...y go back into it...not only that...there are alot of talented receivers in this years draft...we will be the first team to win back to back nfc south titles...I GAURANTEE IT!

That WR problem that we have should have been resolved in free agency but here we are already talking about Clayton. If Galloway goes down this season-what happens?
