Bucs Report
Bucs Working Out Kickers

Matt Bryant’s shaky preseason has prompted a response from the Bucs, who worked overtime on Labor Day.

Following Monday morning’s practice, three kickers worked out at team headquarters under the watchful eye of Tampa Bay officials, including GM Bruce Allen and director of pro personnel Mark Dominik.

Bryant, who boasts an 82.5 percent success rate on field goal attempts during his three years with the Bucs, struggled throughout the preseason after enjoying a solid training camp. In four exhibition games, Bryant missed on five of his 12 FG tries.

With the Week 1 opener against New Orleans looming, the Bucs apparently want to check out the field of available kickers to protect themselves if Bryant’s kicking woes continue.

I dont know what happen there to Matt Bryant but he better shape up during the season coming and we have been counting on him for the longest to do some great filed goals and if he keeps this up he is going right down to the wire. This is not like Matt to miss that many field goals. Jay Feely from the Chiefs is a great kicker who could probably do some great field goals better then Matt Bryant, And that is what I heard that the bucs is working on him

Or, he’ll be working back in the Pawn Shop we pulled him out of.

Gruden should be pushing to get the most out of his team; sounds like he’s doing that.

the way the bucs play offense they better hope bryant comes around as they play a lot of close low scoring games. When it comes to kickers you’re only as good as your last kick so Bryant will have to step it up or he will be working as a door greeter at walmart

Well DaBucFan, Gramatica has the Saints kicking job, so he must be doing something right.

Dale from Va.,

Funny. I was thinking the same thing. What do you expect from a DaBuc. How original. That’s sarcasm, DaBuc.

I remember when Grammatica single-handedly derailed our ‘03 season. Bryant looks as if he would like to repeat that feat. Good for GruAllen to light a fire under his ass! It really is a game of inches and kickers are a premium position.

We should put Clifton Smith on the practice squad. That man is going to be a true baller. I hope they do.

Raw,
We have enough talent at CB.

Hey, DaBucFan--CVal was poking fun at Grammatica’s accent--you know, like “we don’t need no steenkin’ badges...” Obviously someone who uses the phrase, “one who can recognize mistakes in technique” knows how to spell ‘kicking’ and ‘pretty.’ Lighten up, Francis.

Yeah can someone tell us who they worked out! Also im surprised that the Bucs didnt try to get CB Trae Williams on the practice squad, he was really good in the preseason.

Posted by  DaBucFan,  on 09/01  at  03:54 PM

Hey CVal it is spelled kicking, not keecking and pretty, not preety.  And as for the coach that is Rich Bisaccia who consistently has had our special teams improving each year and had us as one of the top units in the NFL in 2007.  As for Allen, he is watching because he is the GM and no one gets signed without his approval and having GM’s watch try out is common practice across the NFL.  And as for Grammatica, he is not kicking well at all.  Since we cut him loose he has played for four different teams and three different teams in the past three years.  If he is that good he would not be bouncing around and he has also only played in a whopping 11 games in the last three years.  Hardly good.

Since the Bucs don’t have a kicking coach, one who can recognize mistakes in technique, for e.g., why not hire such a coach instead? I mean, what does Allen know about kicking technique? Same thing happened with Grammatica under Gruden. He’s keecking preety good now.

yeah, no kidding.
