TAMPA—Don’t even think about Colt McCoy or Sam Bradford flinging passes for the 2010 Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
As long as Raheem Morris remains head coach, the Bucs are moving forward with Josh Freeman as their QB of the future. Morris said as much before the season started, admitting the franchise is “married’’ to the rookie out of Kansas State as the long-term answer under center.
Even if Tampa Bay ends up with the No. 1 pick in the April draft, the Bucs won’t even consider Bradford or McCoy if Morris is still stalking the sidelines. Morris and Freeman are joined at the hip pad and if Freeman ends up being a mistake, Morris and GM Mark Dominik will pay dearly.
Instead, look for the Bucs to address nagging concerns up front on defense, where new coordinator Jim Bates has been unable to forge a decent pass rush and a depleted secondary is being asked to hang with receivers for too long.
Three prospects to consider are Gators DE Carlos Dunlap and a pair of defensive tackles—Oklahoma’s Gerald McCoy and Ndamukong Suh of Nebraska. Unless Gaines Adams shows marked improvement in the next three months, Tampa Bay will be tempted to take another edge rusher like Dunlap in an effort to generate some heat.
Suh is quite intriguing, a rare blend of size and athleticism at a premium position. Although no DT has been selected No. 1 overall since 1994, when the Bengals chose Dan “Big Daddy’’ Wilkinson out of Ohio State, Suh could persuade a team like Tampa Bay to call his name first and build a line around his rather unique skills set.

Judging from the last #1 pick, Rah Rah and Bates don’t have a clue as to draft!

The Bucs have so many holes and needs where do you start? I would like to see the defense get some attention in the early rounds of the draft this year. DT is a good place to start especially if we get someone that commands a double team and frees up the DE for one on one with the tackle . Wait we have that this year and our DE’s suck.

Ira, you need to have your head examined if you really think that the biggest mistake in the history of coaching is going to be back on the sidelines next year. With that being said, a new coach will come in with complete control and clean house and I wouldn’t be surprised if with the #1 pick in the draft we took Sam Bradford or Colt McCoy. It would be really short sided to say, “well we have Josh Freeman, so let’s pass up on the best player in the draft.” I personally think that it was a huge mistake drafting Freeman in the first place.

and Bates will be gone too.
I was talking with another bucs fan last night and we’ve come to the conclusion that this team is completely lost and has no identity. I was foolish to get onboard the Raheem bandwagon when he was hired, but the more I watch this team play and listen to that idiot talk, the more I think that Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dumb Glazer have no idea what to look for in a head coach. I don’t know how every reporter in the room keeps a straight face when Raheem talks during press conferences. He makes no sense and stumbles over every word. It’s a disaster and the pirate ship is sinking fast. I’m not going anywhere, but this team is sooooo painful to watch.

Well hopefully Morris will get canned and the above possibilities may come true!

i think people will be surpised once josh johnson gets his chance…the kid has the skills to be the starter of his team…i personal also believe drafting freeman was a huge mistake when you had everette brown, percy harvin, peria jerry and robert ayers on the board…

McCoy did not look like a Top 10 pick last night against Miami.
