Bucs Vikings Wrap

Certainly there will be those voices that talk about ugly wins and more frustrations in the red-zone, but I say this one was a respectable win.  This was one of those wins a playoff contending team needs to gut out.

Defense!  Awesome.  We’ve been talking for a few weeks about needing our D-line to get the QB pressure and sack numbers up.  Gus Frerotte will be spending his Monday in a whirlpool.  Mission accomplished.  Overall, our D managed to hold the Vikes to just over 200 yards of offense, and Adrian Peterson to less than a hundred - something that hasn’t been easy for the Vikings opponents to do all year.  Hats off to Monte Kiffin for a great scheme today.

On offense, give Jeff Garcia credit for his having game.  Garcia will probably be in a hot tub Monday, but with a smile on his face - his aches and pains were the result of his running, ducking, dodging, and refusing to hook slide short of a first down marker.  Perhaps the signature moment of his game today was when he ran head on into Vikings D-lineman Jarod Allen, popped to his feet, and reached a hand back to help the wide body up off the ground.  I can only hope our diminutive QB asked Allen, “You okay?” when he offered the lift.

Some mentions: Jimmy Wilkerson and Kevin Carter flat got after it today.  Kudos.  Derrick Brooks, as mentioned earlier, put a fine game on film today.  On the other side of the ball, great to have B.J. Askew back out there.  Jerramy Stevens put in a fine effort today.  You have to love that 6’7 matchup just about anywhere you find him on the field.  Let’s not forget Warrick Dunn, over a hundred all-purpose yards.  All the man does is make a difference.

Congrats to the Bucs for their first ever 5-0 start at home.  What did you see out there today?

About Darin:

Darin Shaw has served as the Senior Pastor at Christ's Church of Amherst, N.H., since January 2000. He's written a few blurbs, led a few projects and produced a few cool things over the years. The very best of what he's produced are four wonderful girls - Amanda, Katie, Becky and Emily - he managed to pull that off along with his lovely wife Shari. Together they all live in a red house surrounded by lots of trees in the same community with lots of really great people. He is known to hang out on Sunday mornings with people of a much higher caliber than he, and counts that among life's greatest privileges. Then, on Sunday afternoons, Darin and his family settle in for the full slate of NFL games, shouting loudest when the Buccaneers take the field.

Key Stats: 6-2, 240 ... 16-year veteran of Pastoral Ministry out of Florida Bible College and Southwestern Bible College and Theological Seminary ... Boasts of being able to count on one hand the number of Buccaneers games he has missed (either having been there in person, watched on television, or listened to the radio) since they entered the NFL in 1976. ... Sports a lifetime 74 percent accuracy in NFL prognostication ... Certifiable Jesus freak; loving husband; devoted father; zealous blogger.
