Bucs v Dolphins past-match ups and Week 10 picks

The Bucs and Dolphins have played each other eight times in the regular season and the Bucs have won the last three.  There have some been some memorable ones included as you can see on BUCPOWER.COM but here are the basics.

1976
The two teams had met in the first home exhibition game but this one meant something.  And the winless Bucs gave the Dolphins all they could handle with Parnell “Paydirt” Dickinson making his first NFL start and going 4-4 for 59 yards before getting hurt.  Steve Spurrier threw a pair of TD passes to ex-Dolphin Morris Owens but a late Garo Yepremian fieldgoal was enough for another Buc loss.

1982
The Monday Night game that made me a Buc fan.  So thank you Mike Washington who had the final one of the five interceptions of David Woodley and Don Strock in the game.

1985
An incredible 41-38 shootout in which Jimmie Giles set a Buc record with four TD receptions from Steve DeBerg.  But Miami had Dan Marino and the Marks brothers and it came down to who had the ball last.

1988
Vinny was “injured” according to Ray Perkins so Joe Ferguson stepped in to throw a pair of TD passes in a 17-14 loss at the Old Sombrero.

1991
A comfortable 33-14 win for Miami in South Florida also memorable for it being played on the day Freddie Mercury of Queen died.

1997
A magical Sunday night game from Houlihans Stadium in a nationally-televised encounter that the Bucs UK were on the sideline for and then got very drunk afterwards with members of the Tampa sports media.  Trent Dilfer had four touchdown passes and Jimmy Johnson got his ##### handed to him by the unbeaten Bucs.

2000
A wet and windy day in Miami but Shaun King and the Tony Dungy defense had just enough to squeeze past the Dolphins on the way to the post-season.

2005
A game shown live on British TV and we all saw Brian Griese get hurt and replaced by some young left-hander with a big arm from Texas.  Whatever happened to him ....?  The Bucs won and were on their way the post-season again.

Week 10 picks
And just for the Pigskin Preacher, some picks for Week 10 (I’ve been on vacation you know and still am here in Clearwater Beach!)

Carolina over Atlanta, Tampa Bay over Miami (naturally), Minnesota over Detroit, Jacksonville to win at the Jets, Pittsburgh to handle Cincinnati, New Orleans over St.Louis, Tennessee over Buffalo, Denver over Washington (but I smell an upset here), Oakland over Kansas City, Arizona over Seattle, Dallas over Green Bay, San Diego over Philadelphia, New England to beat the unbeaten Colts and Baltimore on MNF against the Browns.
