TAMPA – In an attempt to upgrade their wide receiver position, the Bucs on Monday traded a sixth-round draft pick in 2011 to the Eagles for one-time standout Reggie Brown.
Brown, 29, had 61 catches in 2007 but caught just nine balls last year as he was edged out of the Eagles lineup by rookie Jeremy Maclin and second-year pro DeSean Jackson.
Brown, who has 177 catches for 2,574 yards and 17 touchdowns in his career, originally came into the league as a fifth-round draft pick of the Eagles in 2005.
Brown almost immediately moved into the starting lineup as a replacement for then-suspended Terrell Owens in 2005 and was the Eagles top wideout in 2006, averaging 17 yards per catch.
Brown suffered through an injury-plagued 2008 season in which he lost his starter’s job to Jackson. He later fell behind Jason Avant at slot receiver and spent most of 2009 on the bench.
