Bucs Sign Moore, Cut More

TAMPA - It didn’t take the Bucs long to fill the roster spot that opened up following the release of Patrick Chukwurah.

On a day when even more players were purged from their roster the Bucs signed fourth-round draft pick Dre’ Moore to a four-year contract.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but Moore, at defensive tackle out of Maryland, became the second 2008 draft pick to sign with the team, fallowing the signing of RB Cory Boyd.

While announcing the signing of Moore the Bucs also officially announced the release of Chukwurah, DL Marquies Gunn, TE Keith Heinrich, WR Amarri Jackson, LB Leon Joe, WR Charlie Spiller and FB Carl Stewart.

Geno Hayes, along with every other rookie picked in the late rounds, will face an uphill battle. I agree with many of you that Hayes exhibits some potential, maybe even starter-potential. However, whether he gets to show it off or not will depend on whether he ever gets to play. Right now, he’s one of MANY LBs on the roster - most of which are far more experienced than he is. With some hard work, he’ll make the team. With some more hard work and a lot of luck, he’ll get a chance to play in an actual game.

For now, he’s nothing more than a long-term “maybe.”

You can get taserd for anything like even raising your voice at them it doesn’t make you a thug. What was the time that he ran if your so full of information ? A LB doesn’t have to run a 4.3 If I remember right he ran it about the same time as big Derrick when he first came to the league.

live in atlanta, born in st.pete 31 teams passed on him at least 6 times.we all have our opinions but his time in the forty is a fact..TOO SLOW.. linebacker Geno Hayes and senior fullback Joe Surratt were arrested at a bar near the Florida State campus, police and school officials said. Police said Hayes had to be subdued with a Taser and Surratt struck a police officer.

Ira,

Watch and see. Florida St. is noted for producing the best LBs in the country. Not only he went to Florida St. but he wore the same jersey # as mister Brooks when he went there. I only state the facts Ira. To bad for your Atlanta Falcons. Theres a new deputy in town. Watch out for “Little Derrick”

I just went to NFL.COM and went to the BUCS page and yes, today GENO HAYES signed a contract deal today. So yes this is the begining to the long great career he will have with us. The kid is on his way to the top. Sorry MICHAEL !!!!

Theres no way Geno gets cut. That kid is going to be around a very long time. Derrick Brooks has done took him under his wing, he is only 20 yrs. old with protential. You would have to be a total moron to let him go. He WILL be a future pro-bowler with the Bucs. Just watch and see.

Ran into a group of Noles fans today here in Gator Nation. They knew I was a Bucs fan and just kept going on about how much great potential this kid Geno Hayes has… if he stays out of trouble. Our sports director here at First Coast News is also a Noles fan and said the Bucs got a steal pickin’ him in the 6th round. Guess we’ll soon see.

To tell the truth… Jeno Hayes will make a name for himself he’s a really good player just needs experience that he’s going to get from working with Derrick Brooks…Leon Joe…well that’s another story, he was just a project in the works.

Geno Hayes doesn’t have the speed either. Unless he pumps up the velocity, he’ll be a casualty of the cuts too.

Micheal,

Who ever said that Leon Joe was the next Derrick Brooks ? I never heard that one before. Now Geno Hayes thats another story thats “little Derrick” that kid is going to be something else.
And he is only 20 yrs. old.

What happened to the NEXT Derrick Brooks, Leon Joe? It could best be summed up: SPEED KILLS and Joe didn’t have IT. There are some very good linebackers on the squad who served on special teams last year, Adam Hayward comes to mind. These rookies often make me laugh. Thinking: “boy is the NFL lucky to have me.” Then they get on the practice field and some of the D Linemen can out run them. Ha ha. Too funny.

I knew Amarri Jackson wasn’t going to make it.
