Bucs Sign Jameel Cook

Tampa Bay has signed two fullbacks to help with its urgent need.

The Bucs signed FB Jameel Cook and placed Byron Storer on injured reserve.

In addition, Tampa Bay signed FB Ryan Powdrell to its practice squad and released former USF LB Ben Moffitt.

Cook was drafted by the Buccaneers in the sixth round of the 2001 draft. He played with the Bucs from 2001-05 and has 15 carries for 43 yards and 81 receptions for 486 yards and three touchdowns in his career.

Tampa Bay’s needed to sign a FB after Storer tore his ACL against Carolina and with B.J. Askew still recovering from his hamstring injury. The Bucs used Earnest Graham at fullback against Carolina, and although he played well, Tampa Bay would rather use him as a running back.

hey michael,i hope you are a nfl, ncaa,or high school coach/scout.because if you are not, that is the biggest load of bs ever posted.to actually state that you knew more about moffitt and his abilities better that the bucs staff is asinine.how wouldnt they know about a player they brought in to work out, or the fact that he played ball down the road.it just might be possible he was brought in because the bucs were short a lb in practice.ruuds injury was never serious.there wasnt even fear in him having to miss a game.maybe moffitt was released because we signed cook and need a roster spot for him.thanks,we are all now dumber for having read you post.

That was a good moved bringing back the FB, and putting the other FB on practice squad. I think that former USF LB will be part of the bucs down the road. Go Bucs. Oh by the way I can’t wait untill Galloway and Carnell Williams Returns. GO Bucs again.

Welcome back Jameel! Great move Gruden. Moffitt, hope you got some type of an education at your commuter school or can catch on with another team. Go Gruden, go garcia, and go Bucs!

Moffitt was released from the practice squad to make room for the other FB they got today. They probably found out what I posted to be true:
Posted by Michael Harris, Oldsmar, FL on 10/08 at 12:12 PM…Here’s my scouting report on Moffitt: Great attitude, a real team player, good in the locker room, good hitter, decent tackler, good hands, slow, lacks NFL side to side mobility and speed of most Bucs Linebackers. Needs help on coverage. Will be a good special teams player. Signing Moffitt tells me that Ruud’s injury may be more serious than we were led to believe. Him being released tell me that Ruud’s injury must be better.

Any more news on Moffitt? I hope he lands on his feet with the 3 kids to support and a divorce to pay for.
I always thought he was a little undersized to play LB in the NFL, but well suited for the suicide squad and special teams. Go Bulls!

Not only can he block, look at his receptions during his time with Gruden… He’s a very good receiving FB and has some quicks too. I think this might be one of the better re-signings over the last couple of years. I believe he was blocking for Alstott for some of the Power formations. Good get here!

Good sign but a band aid to stop the bleeding for right now. Here’s to Cook getting his feet underneath him during the Seahawk game and then going at if full bore during the meat of our schedule.

GO BUCS!!!

I always sorta liked Cook. He is a nice stop-gap pick-up.Although, I guess he will stick around when Askew gets back as Gruden likes to carry 2 fullbacks.

Cook is the best blocking fullback in the NFL. This is a great get!!!

There is really nothing to be negative about here. We have to play Seattle next, not to look past them but they ain’t exactly dominating anyone. hopefully we can rest our man and get him back in, Graham can even split time with him some if need be.

Get well, BJ. That guy flat out makes plays when he’s healthy.

I kinda figured they’d sign him because he was cut by Houston and had played in Gruden’s offense. If they signed him I suppose he passed a physical. Just don’t give him the ball, blocks only the guy dropped a lot of balls if I remember correctly. Don’t want to be negative I suppose we have a roster spot.
