Bucs Re-sign WR Warren; Bryant, Clayton May Be Next

Posted Jan 20, 2009 by Roy Cummings

The Bucs have re-signed receiver Paris Warren.

Warren appeared to make the team out of training camp in 2007 only to break his ankle catching a touchdown pass during the last game of the preseason.

His comeback bid last summer was cut off when he was released by the club prior to the start of the regular season.

The Bucs have also expressed interest in re-signing free agent receivers Antonio Bryant and Michael Clayton.

The Bucs need to sign Clayton,Byrant,Mcown and make sure they tie up Graham so they can right the ship after the mess Gruden and his ego has left them in.
good luck to the new coach and general manager we are pulling for you

I hope coach considers not only athletic ability but also character and attitude toward success when evaluating which players to keep and invest in. Now that we have a coach with good character and honor, let’s hope each team member meets the same par excellence. I want a team we can truly be proud of.

I don’t know why anyone would want to sign Clayton, he can’t catch and he has 2 TD’s in last 4 years!

david, clayton is either blind or a headcase. He’s a product of the bad talent scouting, or “mess” as you say, that Gruden/Allen left behind.

Will all due respect to Clayton… he has done absolutely nothing the past 5 seasons.. 2 TD’s since his rookie season, THATS HORRIBLE!!... we should let him go but if we do sign him it better be for the league minimum… BRYANT is a must sign though

the bucs will resign clayton because they have no depth at the position. the wrs would include bryant, hilliard, clark and now warren. clark and warren are young, but not very good. hilliard is going to be 33 or 34. clayton will get resigned because hes the next best on the team, not because hes worth keeping for a playmaker in the future.

tat, you are correct about resigning Clayton.  It will only be for depth.  He can play special teams and backup at the WR position.

Lets keep the same guys and expect different results. Sounds like something only a fool would do. The only wideout worth keeping is Bryant, the others are past their limited prime or are just plain garbage.

Bryant HAS to be signed and I don’t see any way he won’t be.  I would like to see what Warren and Clark are able to do, given the opportunity.  I think Warren showed some talent in the preseasons.  Clayton can go ahead and try the free agency market.  I hope we can pick up some good receivers.  Now that Gruden is gone, maybe some free agents will be willing to play for this team.

Must re-sign Antonio Bryant.
And then make a real run at the likes of UFA’s Devery Henderson and Bobby Engram.

Houshmanzadeh would be a miracle, but I don’t see him coming to the Bucs, as he probably will end up with a real 2009 Super Bowl contender.

Unfortunately, the Bucs will not be a contender for the 2009 Super Bowl.

Clayton is a waste of time and has been for 7 yrs, but he’s “respected around the league” according to him!! LOL He and Jeffy can take their pouty ‘I’m not respected’ schtick somewhere else. I’m also surprised none of you geniuses who made such a big stink about not lining up AB and Galloway at the same time, aren’t even mentioning White Tiger here, considering how not using him during the season was only one of Gruden’s endless mistakes (not my view!) we can answer WR prob thru FA, while drafting DT, RB, and CB (Ronde is old and Buchanon’s nickname is toast last season—cause he got burnt every game!) QB is big prob and I hope we can lure one to team

If you really want to look at a good under the radr free agent… Shaun McDonald… good pickup, and probably reasonable.

Dude your nuts, Buchanon got burned on ONE game.. ONE…Now Ronde? Did hid best Brian ‘Ole Dirty Rug’ Kelly impersonation last year.. but he has earned the right to try to rebound this year…time is short for him though…

Signing Clayton purely for depth knowing he WONT produce is a waste of a roster spot we could use on someone who might have a future here… Gruden got fired for NOT PRODUCING… Clayton hasent produced either so he should be let go like Gruden

Oh and a few more things… would everyone who thinks we need to add more CB’s and LBers get your heads out of your butts and realize we dont need to draft or sign any CB’s… (Barber has still got juice left, bucnanon was decent last year and we got 2 young studs in Talib & Mack)... Or LBers… (with the exception of Brooks everyone is young fast and talented.. stopping the run was purely the fault of the D-line not getting any penetration run or pass.. it was down right awful the last 4 games

Paris Warren wow!! now only 46,990,000 more cap dollars to spend. Do not sign Can’t catch Clayton. Clayton you want more playing time catch the damn ball. Well Detroit cut a bunch of ex buc players I suppose we’re going resign them too. 0-16 here we come.

Paul, I have to agree with you on the don’t sign Michael “born-again-cause-I-can’t-catch” Clayton. I’m also hoping not to go 0-16, but if they keep hiring guys with no experience that could be. They need to fill the def coord and off coord spots with some guys with lots of experience. Heck wouldn’t hurt if they had even been head coaches before. That could help Morris out a lot.

Paul- Don’t worry about the salary cap. The Glazers will continue to watch it grow as long as the seats are filled.

Sign Bryant, forget Clayton. Sign Barber but only as an experienced old pro. Yes he had four interceptions, but missed a lot of tackles, but worth having on the team, just do not overpay for him. His Pro Bowl selection was based on four interceptions and not his body of work. A hard decision has to be made on Derrick Brooks, given his age. Glad I am not making that one. Galloway should be on the highway as you read this if not sooner. We must draft WR,QB,DL,DL,RB,LB.

Bryant is a no brainer - they knew they would have to cough up some money for him this year - so let’s get it done and pay the man - he’s proved his worth.  Clayton - see ya - you’ve had multiple chances to earn your keep and failed to do so.  Barber - he’s earned his keep and then some - a couple bad games does not destroy a career.  We need to find another legit WR and TE.  Let Stevens go - he’s ok but not worth the headache - besides he owes us for waiting for him to clear suspension.  We have a real chance to pickup a couple of good coaches to assist with the 09 season - it all start w/ the coaching - let’s get that settled and make our players earn their keep.
