Bucs Report
Bucs O-Linemen On Notice

TAMPA - The Bucs remain one of the most penalized teams in the league, and that is really starting to bug Coach Jon Gruden.

Gruden voiced displeasure with his team’s penchant for penalties again after practice on Thursday, zeroing in on the offensive line and suggesting strongly that if certain repeat offenders can’t clean up their game they’ll be removed form the starting lineup.

“The last two games we’ve had seven or eight false starts penalties, which is uncharacteristic, unacceptable and inexcusable,’’ said Gruden, whose team has been penalized 37 times, more than all but three teams in the league. “It’s a lack of concentration, and if it’s not cleaned up we’ll have to make some changes in our lineup.’’

RT Jeremy Trueblood has probably been the most consistent offender. He was called twice for false starts and once for holding last week at Denver. He was also the player who allowed Champ Bailey to rush in and take out quarterback Brian Griese on a blitz.

“There’s a discipline you have to have to play pro football,’’ Gruden said. “But we’ve had some holding calls and some personal foul calls and it’s killed us. It has hurt us big time. I mean, we’ve really suffered because of it.

“But I expect dramatic improvement Sunday. If we’re going to win the game, that’s going to be one of the reasons why.’’

Khedric, thanks for the inciteful, well thought out, dumba$$ reply. Let’s see, should the Bucs rescramble the entire line, except center and right guard (your idea) or should they put a mean, athletic Sears at right tackle and move Zutah back to right guard, where he played great during our three game winning streak. Seems like an easy choice to me. I would also replace Muir as coach, but not with you.

Not denying that penalities have hurt the Bucs, but the play calling and game plans have been worse. Gruden should retire from calling plays and let Garcia call his own game. Serious consideration should be given by the Glazer’s to hiring an offensive coordinator.

I think Gruden did the right thing, tell the guy to concentrate or you may have to change the line up. Trueblood needs to be in that position; he just needs to refine his attitude and his game.

Come to Kitty you friggin’ Bucs.

We’ll make is six in a row at our home away from home and there is nothing you can do about it.

Go Panthers!

I have yet to be impressed with Trueblood, even with all fo his so called accolades. Gruden is just positioning himself to replace him with Zuttah. Trueblood has back-up talent and no better. Zuttah has starter talent and should be in the starting lineup.

Khedric, we don’t need to bash anyone now. You can’t call someone’s idea dumb then come up with a stupid idea.

Everybody is right in the sense that all these guys are versatile, and that is the point. If you need to take the game away from Trueblood or Penn to let them know they need to be more disciplined, then that is why you have Sears and Zuttah which are both very versatile guys. Anthony Davis, of all the names this guy has been replaced at left tackle and has been replaced at left guard. But yes he is an option also.

I do agree that this line is the best line we’ve had so far, remember the bears game..something like 67 passes and 0 sacks? yes they had a bad week, but let’s keep our faith in these guys.
It’s been said that teams resemble their coaches, maybe all this penalties are the result of mediocre coaching…
Off topic: I’m a big believer in the fact that we need an offensive coordinator and a new special teams coach.

Oh man...this makes me remember the bad old days where Kenyatta Walker constantly marched us down the field - BACKWARDS!  I hope Trueblood gets a handle on this and settles down and regains his focus.  He’s a better player than what we saw at Denver. I don’t think I’ve cursed at the TV the way I did Sunday in many years. Let’s go mow down those nasty ‘ol Carolina Kitties! Make this a statement on who we really are.

Scott,

That is a dumb idea and that doesn’t solve the problem. Davin Joseph is a beast and is a huge upgrade over Jeremy (get put on his butt by DT’s) Zuttah.  Trueblood does need to be pushed and if he continues to struggle I wouldn’t hesitate to put Anthony Davis in there to give Trueblood a little motivation.  Penn is also struggling and I wouldn’t hesitate in putting Davis on that side as well or move Sears to LT (which he played in college) and put Zuttah at left guard.

Gruden should be happy. We could have 5 Kenyatta Walkers on the line. EGADS!

Almost everyone thinks that Meir is not doing his job except Gruden!  It figures, Gruden can’t recognise talent anyway.  This has to be the best group of O linemen that we have ever had, but like Gruden, Meir is either inept or he is doing what his boss wants.  Either way, the O line is not getting the job done.  Oh well, after this year we only have three more years of Allen and Gruden!  I believe that Gruden would rather be lucky than good anyway, ie his Superbowl win.

The reason for penalties is because the OL was getting the crap kicked out of them in Denver. There are always penalties when the OL plays poorly. When they fire off that line and get the jump on the DL, WHEN THE BALL IS SNAPPED, then penalties are down. This week they’re playing a DL that’s about 10 steps better than Denver. They’ll have their hands full. But Denver’s DL played WAY over their head. Most of that game they only rushed 3 players and those 3 were kicking the snot out of the Bucs 5 Offensive Linemen. To sum it all up, last Sunday, the Bucs OLine was OFFENSIVE. If you get my drift.

Sears played tackle in college. Replace Trueblood with Sears and put Zutah back in at right guard. Problem solved.

Posted by  angel, brandon on 10/09  at  04:04 PM

if trueblood has such a mean streak maybe he’s playing on the wrong side of the ball. maybe gruden should start zuttah and try out trueblood at DT. man i bet he’d get a heck of push and stop alot of run plays up front. he can be like the jags DT henderson. thier the same size and he’s also mean he gets people to hit him before games wow! i hope the bucs really understand how much we need this win and pull it off

Posted by  CVal, Nashville on 10/09  at  04:01 PM

Hey Trueblood is from Boston.  Whaddya expect? I wouldn’t be surprised if he pulled out a hockey stick and started beating them with it. Okay, so you take him out. Who plays RT? We ain’t got nobody else, eh? Sheesh. One week the O-Line is awesome, the next week they’re chumps. Make up your minds, people.

I think that if Gruden has to take trueblood out of the starting lineup that is the coach decision. I really think that offensive lineman that we got in this draft was the steel of the draft he can play that position. In fact he can play all three position. Trueblood is a good player maybe learning about the qb’s counts will help him in the long run. I hope Tampa will kick Carolina Butt.GO Bucs

Is it me? or does trueblood get a crucial penalty every week! and i mean every week! he has nasty streak but he needs to tone it down because he hurts the team with that garbage! so i think what is being said is more than likely
telling trueblood to clean it up or we are going to have to run it with somebody else.
