TAMPA – That minor shakeup the Bucs are making to their coaching staff could include adding Bucs fullback Byron Storer to the staff.
Storer was a rather promising prospect until a torn ACL derailed his career midway through the 2008 season. The injury cost Storer not only the rest of the 2008 season but all of the 2009 campaign as well.
Instead of wallowing in the misery, though, Storer spent most of 2009 helping special teams coordinator Richard Bisaccia.
Storer said he was just looking for a way to help the team, but it’s possible now that his efforts could turn into something permanent, perhaps as an offensive or special teams assistant.
As for the rest of the staff, the Bucs are definitely on the lookout for a new receivers coach and a new quarterbacks coach.
Bucs head coach Raheem Morris says he would like to find a new quarterbacks coach so QB Josh Freeman can continue to get the attention he needs while offensive coordinator Greg Olson concentrates on game-planning.
Assistant receivers coach Tim Berbenich is believed to be a candidate for both the receiver’s coach’s position and the quarterbacks coach’s spot.
Berbenich isn’t as well known as some of the other Bucs coach’s but he’s already spent eight years in the league, including the last four with the Bucs as a quality control, assistant running backs and assistant receivers coach.
