TAMPA – The Bucs may be changing their plans for seventh-round draft pick Erik Lorig.
Lorig, a 6-foot-4, 275-pound Stanford product, was drafted as a defensive end and he played there throughout training camp and the preseason, but worked out at tight end during Thursday’s morning practice at Tropicana Field.
While the rest of the players on defense wore red jerseys, Lorig wore a white jersey with no number and worked during the individual portion of the workout with the tight ends.
A switch to the offensive side of the ball may not be that difficult for Lorig. He played tight end as well as defensive end and linebacker in high school and was recruited by Stanford as a tight end.
Lorig was red-shirted as a true freshman at Stanford and caught three passes for 21 yards in 12 games as a tight end in 2006. He was moved to defensive end in 2007, when he started eight of 12 games and made 37 tackles.
