TAMPA - Former Lakeland High and University of South Florida defensive end Tim Jones was one of nine players released by the Bucs on Monday.
Tampa Bay had 86 players on its roster, but must trim that number to 75 by Tuesday. That means two more players will be cut on Tuesday.
Jones was a starting tight end at USF until injuries to the Bulls’ line in 2002 prompted the coaching staff to put him at defensive end. By his senior campaign, he was the starting left end, opening all 11 games and producing 48 tackles and 2.5 sacks.
Other players cut were WR Jovon Bouknight, G/C Jonathan Clinkscale, T Jabari Levey, C Nick Mihlhauser, WR Chad Owens, DE Jeremy Pittman, WR Kyle Smith and FB Zach Tuiasosopo.
Mihlhauser spent part of last season on Tampa Bay’s active roster after being signed on November 27, 2006. Bouknight, Clinkscale, Owens and Smith were signed by Tampa Bay on January 17. Jones was signed on July 31, Levey on July 2, Pittman on June 19 and Tuiasosopo on August 13.

why do people care about chas gessner? he is big but slow. the bucs have other receivers that are much better. I would hate to see the bucs keep chas over one of the other receviers galloway, hillaird, boston, stovall, clayton, warren. chas is definitely on the bottom of the list of receivers above.

could anyone give me a little input as to chas gessner’s chances of making the team…will he get some snaps against the oppositions first team??? i’ve only been able to watch his play on nfl network rebroadcasts but i like what i see (big target, good routes, good hands, good adjustment to the ball) his game reminds me alot of a guy named jurevicius…thanks

Gruden is a fool…Jovon Bouknightis gifted and should of remained on the roster. He did not have a fair chance to show his talent.
