Bucs Love Flacco

Q: Roy or Ira, with all the QB trouble the Bucs have, not happy with McCown’s progress or Bruce Gradkowski’s and we don’t know if Simms will ever be healthy again, do the Bucs like the QB from Delaware, Joe Flacco? And would they take a chance on him if still available in the second round? He has a big upside, has a big arm is mobile and he could learn from Garcia for a couple years.—Joseph C. White, Port Charlotte

A: The Bucs love the QB from Delaware. They especially love his arm. So does everybody else. I have been saying for weeks now that the Bucs will probably draft a quarterback this year and I’m sticking to that prediction. The good news is that a lot of the quarterbacks in this year’s draft are dropping because of lack of need and fear of paying too much. That means the Bucs may have a shot at a guy like Flacco, possibly in the third round. He’d be a good acquisition there. And don’t buy into that theory that the Bucs aren’t interested because Coach Jon Gruden didn’t attend his pro day. Gruden saw Flacco at the Senior Bowl and the combine. Between that and the tape he saw enough to make a judgment on him.

I like Colt Brennan. He didn’t have the best teams to go against, but he still put up ridiculous numbers in college that if translated to better competition, would STILL be good numbers. Yes, take a Flacco or a Woodson first, but if Brennan is there, he’s a sleeper in the 3rd. Well worth the pick.

Flacco-not there in 3rd round. Great arm...not a Gruden scrambler...McCown can be great...Can Gruden teach GREATNESS???

Draft a SAPP in the 1st if he is there!
Otherwise grab Jenkins...2nd draft WR!...3rd If Flacco then OK.

I like the upside of Flacco, and think the Bucs would do well to pick him if he is still available in the second round. He won’t have any need to be rushed into playing any time soon . He can sit and learn the offense and pick up things from Garcia and Griese for a couple years . We need a young Qb that will be here for years and this kid has everything Gruden likes except experiance. If the Bucs find there speed at wr in free agency either now or after june 1st when more will be available and pick the Cb in round one ,I think Flacco would be a good and wise pick .

I think that a lot of people forget about the kid from USC John David Booty.  He looks like he’ll be in the 3rd or 4th round.  That’s where we want to get a QB to develop with veterans.  He worked with the great west coast coach of Pete Carroll and he’s probably the most NFL ready.  He doesn’t have a cannon arm, but he can still chuck a 50 to 60 yard ball every now and again.  His strength is his accuracy and at the combine he was the most accurate.  Don’t forget that the West Coast system is designed to march down the field and take a few shots.  The last time we had a QB that understood that was Brad Johnson and he even looked like a superstar.  I say take this kid in the 3rd if Flaaco isn’t there in the second.

Wht draft a QB.  With plummer on our roster we have 6 Qb’s.  Garcia, Sims, Mcnoun, Greise, Grad, and PLummer.  Do we really need another one?

to many qbs don’t need to draft one to many holes .all around the team if anything need to swing a deal.and get J.PEPPERS put him wit G.ADAMS.so they can have a major passrush.pressure is what make the cover2 work; make me understand what da bucs are doing.to make da team better beside rejects from other teams that are not better than us.

Lubin’s exactly right. Why draft a position you have a history of never developing. It’s a wasted pick. They were high on Chris Simms, who had a big arm. What happened? Gradkowski?
Gruden is too impatient a person to develop a qb.  It’s a personality issue. Besides...the Bucs now have a glaring need at cornerback. For any of you who think Buchanan can “hold his own” as a starter...you might want to go back and look at last years tape. If he’s now the starter, our improved defense just dropped five or six slots. And with Ronde in the final throws of his career can they really afford not to draft a corner in the first several rounds?

Colt Brennan played against inferior talent at Hawaii and looked horrible at the Senior Bowl.  His stock has been dropping and I believe he’ll be a bust.

Flacco has a huge arm so maybe Buc fans can stop griping about not having a QB with an arm.

Why don’t we know if Simms can play?  Are you a reporter or a mouse.  Why don’t you find out? Are Gruden and Allen making decisions on the team’s QB needs without having assessed Simm’s health and ability to play?  You have to ask the right questions of the right people.  That way, readers won’t sound so ignorant by making uninformed comments.

The Bucs don’t need to draft a “QB of the Future.” Gruden’s success has always come with veteran QBs who already know how to read defenses and play the position at this level. Gannon, Brad Johnson, Jeff Garcia. Gruden does not have the patience, or maybe ability, to teach a young QB. The Bucs QB of the future is learning his trade with another team right now. Using a high draft pick on a QB would be a waste with Gruden.

Draft Flacco 2nd or 3rd round. Keep McCown. Cut Simms(what a bad break) and Gradkowsi. Stuck with Greise. Start Jeff Garcia. Fire Bruce Allen!

Maybe if we draft a QB with skill, we can develop something for the future. A year or two to learn the NFL game and the QB position from a couple of veteran QB’s could help. Or may, as some suggest, we just shouldn’t try to develope one. maybe the Raiders will let Russell go, or maybe we can spend a trillion bucs on Ryan Leaf, some people seem to think that spending a ton of money for marginal talent is the way to win a superbowl, as long as the player has a name we recognize and and we spent as much money as possible.
Really !!!!!!!!!! Or are these just comments from the staff writers at the local papers in disguise. (Sounds just like them)

Flacco is NOT someone we should worry about.  If you want someone you can take on the low end of day 2 and would fit PERFECTLY in Grudens offense, its Brennan.  Hes a carbon copy of Garcia.  Elusive, and insanely accurate.  I dont see what the love affair with Flacco is anyway other than Mike Mayok on NFL Network raving about his arm.  This also occured right as flacco missed recievers at the combine twice by about 5 yards each.

What the heck? Why not take a chance on Flacco? We would do good to pick him up. Face it, Simms, Grad, and Mcown are not the answer to the problem.I bet that gruden would chuck the ball down field alot more with this guy than he can with the ones we have now. Garcia is one hit away from retirement,Griese and the rest could throw 30 yards accurately. This guy’s accuracy is one of the best.

DON’T DRAFT A QB.  GRUDEN AND THE BUCS ORGANIZATION HAS NEVER BEEN ABLE TO DEVELOP ONE.  IT WILL BE A WASTED PICK.

Posted by  DJ BUZ, PI -- S.C. on 03/11  at  01:09 PM

FLACCO WILL NOT BE AVAILABLE IN THE 3rd ROUND.  IF THERE IS A CHANCE TO GET HIM IN THE 2nd ROUND WE SHOULD.  BUT WHAT IS THE DEAL WITH McCOWN?  HE LOOKED GOOD IN THE GAMES HE PLAYED IN WITH THE STARTERS AND NOT THE 2nd TEAM.
