Bucs Interested In Eddie Kennison

Tampa Bay might be interested in acquiring another reciever to increase productivity from that position.

Former Kansas City standout receiver Eddie Kennison is currently on Tampa Bay’s radar. John Hamilton, Kennison’s agent, confirmed the 13-year veteran worked out for Tampa Bay’s coaching staff on Monday. Hamilton also said Kennison, who was hindered by a torn hamstring last season, passed the physical.

“Tampa Bay is one of the clubs we’re talking to right now. It is the only one he agreed to visit,” Hamilton said. “I think he would really love to play for Coach Jon Gruden.”

Kennison, 35, has 548 career receptions for 8,345 yards and 42 touchdowns. He was originally a first round draft pick by the St. Louis Rams in 1996.

However, last season’s injury slowed Kennison, who had only 13 receptions for 101 yards and no touchdowns.

Gruden previously said WR Joey Galloway was Tampa Bay’s only clearcut No.1 receiver and competition for the other spots were wide open.

If Tampa Bay is interested in signing Kennison, it likely will not happen until June 1. On that date, teams can cut a player and the salary cap hit would not apply until the following season.

Gruden said after the season that they would not be shopping bargin FA. THEN WHY ARE WE $20M UNDER THE CAP AND TRYING OUT HAS-BEEN WRS?!?! Crimeny, Randy-freaking-Moss was avaiable this year!

Are the Glazers using this money to line their own pockets or finance their soccer team in UK??? I wish TBO would investigate this.

I understand that we have some issues at WR, but I am more inclined to agree that we are better off without EK right now.  Nick, your understanding of the West Coast Offense is…let’s just say unique.  In most of those offenses, the exact opposite of what you said is true.  The majority of the passes in the West Coast systems are SHORT, which causes the corners to shorten their cushions, which CAN lead to a FEW deep passes being wide open.  We know that NOT having a powerful offense in TB is not the end of the world.  If Shaun King can come a Bert Emmanuel pass away from a SB, Garcia and Co. should be fine.

I love the indigent out rage at the mere mention of signing Kennison. None of this is anything but speculation to begin with. I imagine if he signed it would be for 1 year at the minimum and not guaranteed. If we have learned anything from Gruden training camps its that he likes competition. Kennison would simply be another body, another WR to try and push guys like Clayton, Stovall, and Bryant less they think anything is a given.

I haven’t seen any press conferences scheduled to announce our new #2 receiver. So the people acting like Gruden/Allen expect Kennison to make the squad much less make an impact can relax, breathe, have a beer.

Erik (Chester, Pa) is right, check this out. A few years ago we took a chance on a veteran wide-receiver, Joey Galloway, and struck gold; but Brucie & Chucky let’s stop while we are ahead, okay. Remember the Heisman Trophy veteran wide-out, Tim Brown, who was great, but WAS is the operative word here.  I got no problem in going with proven veterans, but let’s try a few not so close to the Old Folks Home for a change, how about it?

Are the Bucs ever “interested” in the guys they already have?  Ever heard of developing your own talent?  Does Bruce not do good enough job finding talented players, or can Gruden and his staff not get the best out of them?  Seems we are always looking everywhere is for answers except from within.

Ok this looks too familiar , one thing i dont understand why didnt we make a move for a good reciever in the draft or before the draft and get a good free agent WR like ..i don’t know Bernard Berrian..or Jevon Walker or heck on of grudens old wr Jerry Porter so with that been said wtf is J Gruden thinking singning another fossil to the offense come on now please be rational wee need talent along with experience ,balance is the KEY not just old age .

Jeez, you guys are a bunch of cry babies on here. Just because Gruden wants to sign a player (if that is the case here), does not mean that he sees that player as a fix for that position. But, he definately does love to have a healthy competition at each position in training camp. I am sure that a player like this would simply be signed to come in and help younger players this year….i.e., Stovall, Clayton, Jackson, Warren, etc. You guys need to adjust your panties and relax, we have alot of good young talent at the WR position…even Garcia said after last season that their best chance to improve this year is to give these young guys more playing time.

Scott, you are absolutly correct except there isn’t enough room for another reciever to come here unless we get rid of somebody we already have.Because we are not going to keep 7 or 8 on the roster after Aug.30th. You are right though we have plenty of young talent at that possition.
