TAMPA - The Bucs have made an exchange of centers, adding Sean Mahan in a deal with the Steelers and letting go of Dan Buenning, who was dealt to the Bears.
We’ll bring you more details as we get them

WOW…
A Simms blast on a OLine thread… To bad you must not have read all the sports pages that are saying that most teams are not going to sign anyone until after week 1 when there contracts are not guranteed.
Simms is a risk, and yes in the right system he could excel (not saying he will but that he could).
Why does no one admit that for the one or two QBs Gruden makes great, he kills others careers. Funny how Favre did not want to come to Tampa huh!!! Wonder why?

We gave up a 7th rounder for Mahan and got a 6th rounder for Buenning.

People, this was a trade of BACKUP offensive linemen. Sheesh. This wasn’t a trade of Jeff Garcia for Bret Favre. Mahan is a better center than Buenning, who is a better guard. We needed a better backup center, that’s about it.
Serenity now.

Wrong again :p. We traded Buenning to the Bears for the pick we gave up to get Brian Griese, and then used a late pick of our own (possibly the same one) to the Steelers to get Mahan. Basically a straight up trade, from our angle. Not bad, if the staff feels he’s better.

Hey - where are all those teams lining up to get Chris Simms? All the people on the blog spots saying the Bucs should have traded him.....
hhmm. Now that teams can sign him for no compensation, it would be easy to see who they passed up a trade with. Oh, that’s right, no one has made him an offer - so I guess there were no trade offers. Nice job Tampa Tribune. Write ANOTHER article about the greatness of Chris Simms and how he got away. SHEESH....

Yikes, just read on st pete times blog that that’s backwards. We just gave up a pick to get him, which is a bad move. The Steelers didn’t want Mahan anyway. We probably could’ve gotten him straight up.

Oh right, I forgot that we also reportedly got a sixth rounder out of the deal.

Steeler’s fans are no doubt ecstatic as well. I heard several of them complaining about Mahan all throughout last year, saying he was the worst center in football. I’ll just call it a wash, and hope I never have to find out if they were right or wrong.

Great Move. Liked Mahan better anyways.
Great job Gruden/Allen.

GREAT MOVE. Always like Mahon and never liked Buenning. I like what Allen and Gruden have done building this team. I wish them well in their opener in New Orleans.

I like that way that sounds on the surface. I felt like we kinda let Mahan get away last time. Buenning has been reeling ever since that great rookie season and just hasn’t seemed to get back to that form. I guess some injuries are career ending, regardless of whether you still play.

On Simms: never thought he was a starting QB in the league. He’ll make a good back-up and then after many splinters, may learn his defects and work around them. But how can one learn speed and agility?
