Bucs Have Need For Speed

Q: It’s been a long time since I’ve written down to you guys.  Thank you for always answering the Canadian Bucs’ fans too. I’m wondering about the free-agent market and what you see as a Bucs wish list? I’ve heard talk of a speedy WR to complement Joey or a young corner. Any names that stand out? Thanks again.—Matt Berry, Toronto

A: Overall, the free agent market is weak and it will be further diluted when teams re-sign potential free agents. Don’t forget, most teams have plenty of cap room to sign the guys they want to keep. For the Bucs, speed is the operative word. You saw what happened when Galloway was ineffective against the Giants. The Bucs want more offensive weapons across the board—WR, TE, RB, players who can scare opposing defenders and go the distance.

Hey Ira… the Bucs had the its weapon in RB Graham, so why did they stop using him when it was obvious it was effective against the Giants and then suddenly...poof! it was gone. Sorry coaching. There was also Smith @ TE, Garcia is not afraid to throw the ball around. And yes, the Bucs will need to look for a larger faster presence for WRs and another RB with Cadillac not knowing what’s going on for his career (he was having a great year.. although was not missed.)

They need size with that speed.  You’ve seen how teams like the Patriots, Cardnals, Cowboys and Packers, fared with big and fast
receivers.  They’re going to have
to build with the draft.  I agree
with that assessment. And that takes
longer.  The Bucs are two or three
years away from being contenders for
a Championship.  By then Garcia will
be a banged up old man.  So they
better do something about the QB
position.  I don’t see any of the Buc
back ups as starters in this league.

I agree with Byron, although his name is “Jerry” (and not “Joey") Porter.  The last time he was called “Joey” Porter was in a phone interview with a radio show.  When the host introduced him as Joey Porter to the listening audience, he screamed: “My name is Jerry!” and then hung up.  That was an all time classic recording.

Joey Galloway was a part time player.  He was not only missing in the Giants game, albeit due to injury, but he was missing in 5 or 6 games this year.  He has always been that way.  He is a second receiver at best.  We need a speedy number one receiver and I am guessing the Bucs are going to let Bennett get away, so a speedy RB is also a priority.

WR Joey Porter from Oakland - if he opts out of his last year (which he is expected to do). He would be a great addition if plays hard.
