Bucs, Graham Reach Accord on Contract Extension

TAMPA - The Bucs reduced their list of disgruntled players by one on Sunday when they reached agreement on a contract extension with running back Earnest Graham.

The new deal is expected to keep Graham in a Bucs uniform through the 2012 season is reportedly worth $11 million, according to NFL.com

The deal comes in the wake of Graham’s holdout from offseason workouts and should put an end to any speculation Graham might skip the start of training camp.

The only portion of the offseason program that Graham participated in this year was the mandatory minicamp. During the camp, however, Graham did not rule out the possibility he might skip camp in an effort to get the contract he was looking for.

Somehow, this has to be Gruden’s fault!!!

And Simms isn’t going to start anything. He isn’t even going to have a job. McCown or Griese would start before he will. Lets get real.

It would an insane thing to do to start Caddy the begining of the season.
He is doing a great job on coming back but it is really to early for him. I would hate to see him go down again because he really isn’t ready to play. Wait untill mid to late season and then throw him into a couple of plays and see how he is doing on his legs. He will not become a starter this season. Simply because that injury is still fresh. Its great he is running around and stuff. But wait till somebody hits those knees.

I see the platoon concept. Injuries etc. I just don’t see where Cadillac fits into the mix right now. I can see him on PUP for the 6 games to give the RB committee it’s due time to perform. If injury happens, he makes for a nice replacement with fresh legs at mid season.

Congrats to Graham for getting his new deal and hats off to Allen for keeping the extension reasonable.  The new contract is very affordable and, in case anyone thinks otherwise, Graham is not talented enough to warrant anything bigger than this.  I like the kid’s toughness and style, but he lacks many of the attributes that a true feature back have.  For that reason, and despite this new deal, Graham will and should share carries with Dunn and Bennett.  The NFL today is a RB-by-platoon league, and the Bucs are being wise in trying to keep it that way.

they need to give garcia his extension or just start simms

Stability and depth at the running back position will make the passing game much better. Without outside gamebreakers, look for Graham-Dunn-Bennett out of the backfield as receivers, avoiding the collisions at the line of scrimmage. Garcia will build on his all-pro credentials.

Dunn defenitly fits into the mix. All of our backs arn’t going to stay healthy all season “I hope they do” but not likely. We need a guy there especialy for that reason. Bennett is going to be better but he isn’t going take Dunn’s spot no way.

Cadi really hasn’t produced the way a top Pick should have. I like him but have been a little disappointed with his play. We could have had a Serious Defensive player with that draft pick or a QB. The Bucs have invested a lot in that kid and he can’t even put a sentence together when he speaks. He’s a nice kid but it’s time to put up Cadi. The best backs have not always had the best O lines and now we have a top line. Cadi…it’s time buddy. You are number 2 and dropping fast.

That means Garcia is next up. Rookies will follow. Seems like a reasonable $ amount for Graham. Competition in the backfield should be interesting in if Cadi comes back, but Graham had a better half seson than any of Cadi’s whole seasons. Bennett looked good last year too. I just don’t see where Dunn fits into this. Seems really crowded back there. Somebody has to go. Who? Don’t sacrifice a Linebacker for an extra back. Can Quincy Black Punt? Can someone else longsnap? Zuttah? Economos is a waste for only one job. Mo Sto was awesome on Kickoff coverage last year. Headhunter. Graham can bust heads too. He has the big guns now that Pitt’s gone. Cadi can’t beat Graham. He’s a 1000 yds for sure.

Hey Joe,
Let me give you a stat that I don’t think anybody on here knows about.
Under Jon Gruden the Bucs are 16-0 when they do not give up the ball on a turnover. I got that info.. off the NFL Network. It’s not Grudens fault when they turnover the ball.
As for Earnest Graham thats great now I hope he keeps performing now since he got paid. I hope he doesn’t slack off now because he is paid. If he keeps playing like he did last year it will be well worth the money. “GO BUCS”  11-5 this year

Well deserved!

Appreciate the update. It is nice to have Graham in the stable. Seems as if he was willing to play for a reasonable price. Hopefully, if he has a stellar year the Bucs will rip up this contract and give him one of a feature back.

Thanks for the timely update on Sunday evening.  You are appreciated.  Not like those a-holes that complain but keep reading anyway.
