Bucs go 0-2 - some random thoughts from the game

Well that was fun - the game was live on British TV, finished around 12.30am and left me looking for a cat to kick in frustration.  Positives to take away from the game?  Err… I like the look of the 2009 coaching polo shirts.  Might have to get myself one of those.

Byron Leftover’s bullet pass to Kellen Winslow - when he does get rid of it, my god he throws it hard. Who was the last Buc QB to throw a ball that hard? (Anyone who says Shaun King should be barred on the spot). Only Doug Williams had a fastball like that.

Anyone notice Josh Johnson get on the field for the first time in a regular season game? He lined up as a wide receiver on one play. Quick pop quiz - name the Buc QB who started at wide receiver in a game?

Huge turnaround play by Sabby Piscitelli just before half-time with the fumble recovery. Hence it was only 20-14 at the half-time instead of the expected 23-7 or 27-7. Gave us all some hope for a time anyway.

And the way the offense took advantage with a one-play scoring drive. If that had been a Gruden offensive series, it would have been three and out and a Matt Bryant off-the-inside-of-the-post fieldgoal.

And the way British TV showed us the final seconds of the Eagles v Saints game before moving to the Bucs’ game was so nice. Like the result of that one was in any doubt for the final few minutes. But it did give us a chance to hear one of the most inadvertent sideline comments of all time.

Pam Oliver was reporting on Brian Westbrook being out of the game hurt. “He’s being treated with some kind of vibrating contraption that I’ve never seen before”. Well I was sniggering for some time over that one.

Trivia answer - Craig Erickson v San Francisco 1994, Trent Dilfer’s first NFL start.
