Bucs Report
Bucs GM To Jenkins: “We’ll Take You”

BRADENTON - Spent some time with University of South Florida cornerback Mike Jenkins Saturday after he become the Bulls’ first NFL first-round draft pick. And Jenkins confirmed a Tampa Tribune/TBO report earlier this afternoon that the Bucs said they would take him if he was available.

On Thursday, Bucs GM Bruce Allen and Jenkins sat together at a table, enjoying lunch at the Hip Hop Soda Shop on Fowler Avenue.

Allen did not mince his words.

“He said definitely if you’re there at No. 20, we’ll take you,” Jenkins said.

So when the Bucs’ pick came up Saturday and Jenkins was available, Jenkins was shocked when the Bucs opted for Kansas CB Aqib Talib.

“I was definitely surprised,” Jenkins said. “I was disappointed.”

Jenkins went five picks later to the Dallas Cowboys.

Bills and Cards loss…holla @ me after cowboys play Bills and Cards

Posted by  Dan Shreve, Titusville, FL. on 04/30  at  03:16 PM

To all of you Mike Jenkins fans I have one Question: Why didn’t the Bills
and Cards draft Jenkins???? They were the first two to pick a corner we were the 3rd to pick a corner. I’m not taking the talent away from him,he has talent no dought. But like I said why didn’t the first 2 teams take him?
ANY ANSWERS?

Wow, you know what?  I had no idea there were this many Buc’s fans out there that felt this way about USF.  Its very sad, saying USF is terrible and “sucks balls”.  Yea, USF sucked balls all the way to # 2 in the Nation.  All that with 10 years of existence under its belt.  Its a shame…you know, you Buc fans can have the druggie, I’m sure Dallas will be more than pleased with Jenks.  Especially when they are whippin’ you on the field.  Bucs are a good team in the worst division in football.

GO DOLPHINS!!!
GO BULLS!!!

The Bulls suck balls, I think someone has been smokin out with Talib a little too much. Didn’t the Bulls go in to Auburn and beat a team from the mighty SEC? and didn’t that same West Virginia team beat the oh so great Oklahoma Sooners in the Fiesta Bowl? I think UCF as difficult as it sounds was ranked in the top 50 and what happened in that game? Sounds like you have a man crush on Talib

Posted by  James Thomas, Pinellas on 04/28  at  10:50 AM

All of you people with man crushe’s on Mike Jenkins can just stop. Seriously, USF sucked balls last year as they only beat a West Virginia team while they were playing badly but couldn’t beat another team rated in the Top-50 afterwards. USF blows and just because the second best CB on the team wasn’t drafted by the Bucs doesn’t mean all of you bum suckin’ USF fans have to pound the Bucs FO for not doing so. I would’ve been happier with the not-so-hyped-up Trea Williams over can’t-tackle Mike Jenkins. Get a Life! The Bulls Suck Balls!

Everyone who says that Talib is sooo much better than Jenkins just needs to shut up. Talib is good I’ll give him that but he’s not that much better than Jenkins. Some people had Jenkins the top corner, some had him second, and people had him going in the top ten. So just shut up about Talib being so much better

I think gruden just needed someone else that can provide him with a joint in case one of his other potsmoking players are not around

The problem with the Bucs’s pick isn’t that it wasn’t Jenkins—that’s their choice and perfectly understandable—it is telling MJ that they’d take him if he were still available and then not doing so.  That’s just a very lousy thing to do to a local kid.  They treated him, and by extension a great many USF fans, poorly—but no surprise there.

I am definately disappointed with the Bucs passing on hometown Bull Mike Jenkins.  As one of the top corners in the draft whose played on the Bucs home turf the Cowboys should be thrilled to have such a dynamic player.

Sorry Kid you where used, get over it your gonna make aheelofalot $Money$ and T.O. won’t school you in the Playoffs…Joey Galloway will!

Most people on here would ##### if their ice cream was too cold. This is insane, we probably got a +10 value on our pick at 20 with a corner that is an absolute ball-hawk but lets cry about it. Jenkins is good too but not many people, including Allen probably though that Talib was going to fall to 20. Be happy that we adressed a major need.

Let’s face it people…as long as Gruden and Allen are still in charge, the bucs will never make it to the super bowl. We played in the weakest division in the NFL and won! What a big deal! Then we get to the playoffs and get embarassed…AGAIN! And for all that, we reward our offensive “GURU” with a contract extension. Well, I am a bucs fan, and always will be a bucs fan…but having these clowns run the show makes it very frustrating to have confidence when time and time again the do the same thing…..and we have the same results. We are a great team, in the worst Division in football. We need a player’s coach…a coach the players respect and look forward to working with….not a coach that the players dislike!

Aqib Talib: Is a great pick, we are very excited to have this kid join our organization and we look in the future to have selected the best overrall CB in the draft. To all the Bucs fans out there, i know we didn’t pick your choice or players that you had selected in your mock draft but listen this job isn’t easy and before we start to judge our selection in a NEGATIVE way let’s wait and time will tell. I hope to see at RJ Stadium this upcoming season. Go Bucs & LET’S POUND THE ROCK…Thank you all..

Dan Sileo said it, “Dont beleive anything said this week” This is the time that all signals are fakes.
It was a test to see if the kid could keep a secret, he faild the test.

Everybody needs to forget all about
Jenkins yes he is a good player no dought about that and he is a homeboy BUT Talib is a much better corner all
around. He ran a 4.4 thats still fast.
In case you all don’t know Asaunta Samuel ran a 4.57 at the combine.
Talib is going to be star here in Tampa I’m glad to have him.

Posted by  Jason, Tampa, FL on 04/27  at  09:05 AM

Hey Scott Himes… Gruden took Tony’s team to the Super Bowl and beat Gruden’s Raiders team.  Callahan inherited Gruden’s boys and playbook.  And guess what?  The Bucs would have never beat the Raiders if Gruden hadn’t told the Bucs defense what to expect from Gannon and the Raiders offense… Gruden’s offense.  There’s 2 sides to every story Tampa.

BTW… post back in 3 years with your assessment of this draft… to give grades now is pointless.  I bet all you Florida boys thought Quezzie was a GREAT pick… LOL!

Tom,

you know, your first comment was about fostering good spirit with usf fans.  Come on!  Do you really think JG or BA gives a rats behind about that? Maybe the Glazers do since usf pays out the yang to rent RJS, but the coaching brass, no way. What’s your experience as an NFL GM?  Probably not much. Let these guys do their job and see how these picks measure up. I personally am excited about the picks. It’s called optimism.

jenkins, be happy that allen is a pathelogical liar…you landed in a place that has a future…allen delivered a draft that is a bigger joke than his supposed “tiger woods” free agency signings…one pick that has a better chance to wearing state issued clothes than an nfl uniform, and the other that can’t even reach the overhead bin on the team charter…look for the bucs to become a “lottery” team again…first day draft grade D-...saints, panthers had much better drafts…

Posted by  Tom Sabol, Tampa on 04/27  at  08:23 AM

Jim in Nashville, Ignorance definitely must be bliss for you. I’m saying that I hope I’m wrong about Talib. Someone said there is something about him… I know what it is, he gets beat by average to below average WR’s. They always say to trade you need a trading partner and alot of other teams were finding trading partners. We could have gotten Talib later and added picks or even gotten Jenkins. I’m not so concerned with getting Jenkins as I am with getting better value at that pick. With the questions at RB, we had one in front of us.  I applaud the Bucs for getting Dexter Jackson and aquiring more picks he could be a real nice fit.

To all you crybabies, wake up!  Talib is a better talent than Jenkins who played against better talent and is probably ready to step in right away and start.  If Jenkins wasn’t a USF product, none of you would have even heard about him.  All of you crybabies are just mad because you fall in love with player X and Allen drafts player Y.  Allen is ruthless and makes false promises, this is true, I don’t dispute that.  But this does not make him a bad GM.  Face it, the players he drafted and signed as Free Agents won the South last year and we have the potential to defend it this year.  Stop being crybabies.

IF Talib overcomes his past issues and is coachable he will be a steal at #20. He’s an elite athlete capable of dominating for many years and landing in the Hall of Fame….....that’s my prediction; you saw it here first.  We never would of drafted Sapp if we weren’t willing to take a risk.  Besides, some other these other guys also have issues -  they just haven’t come to light yet.

Live with it guys, you only have 4 more years of this “GOOFY PAIR” !!!!!!!

Posted by  Jim, Nashville on 04/27  at  06:53 AM

Who gives a darn about catering to what usf brahman fans wanted?  This kid Talib is a real talent that can help the Bucs in several ways. This is a business, not a popularity contest! Let all the fans of the commuter school out in suitecase city get mad and threaten not to show up at games. Give this kid Talib a chance to do something before you run your mouths.
