TAMPA—According to Jimmy Johnson, the Buccaneers goal of winning the NFC South should be considered a fantasy.
In a conference call, the FOX NFL SUNDAY analyst was asked for his impressions of a stacked division which boasted an overall 36-28 record last season.
“The division is so competitive,’’ said Johnson, who coached the Cowboys to two Super Bowl wins in the early 1990s. “The Saints and the Falcons both will be extremely strong.’‘
Johnson predicted the NFL’s prolonged lockout will give both Atlanta and New Orleans a competitive advantage.
“What we’re going to find out in the early part of the season is that because we didn’t have offseason programs and mini-camps, the veteran teams and the teams that retained their coaches will be much stronger than some of the other teams early in the season,’’ Johnson said. “Veteran teams, especially the Saints and the Falcons, will be much better. It’s a two-team race in the NFC South as far as I’m concerned.’‘

Yeah, but if the Bucs passed out a free pack of Extenze to the fist 1000 fans to the stadium, that might impress him and improve ticket sales at the same time.
