LAKE BUENA VISTA - In case you haven’t heard already, the Bucs canceled their last scheduled training camp workout Thursday.
The Bucs were slated to take the field one last time before breaking camp here at the Disney Wide World of Sports complex. In what is fast becoming a camp tradition, however, the Bucs called off the workout in the middle of the night.
The cancellation came as no great surprise. The Bucs usually spend the final night of camp bonding over dinner that is paid for by the rookies. It’s their form of rookie hazing and as you might expect, the night’s can get pretty long.
The coaches figured out long ago that they don’t get much out of the players on this day, in part because many are still recovering from the night before and in part because everybody’s mind is on getting home. So they’ve taken to either canceling the workout altogether or going through a simple walk-through of plays.
So, one of the most-drama filled training camps in Buc history has come to an end. The Bucs now move into the second phase of the preseason, with a workout scheduled for tomorrow afternoon at One Buc Place. That and all future workouts are closed to the public, so if you didn’t get your fill of pad-slapping in the last few weeks you’ll have to wait for next year.
Check out tomorrow’s Tribune as well as TBO.com for our camp wrap-up. There were a lot of highs and lows and a lot was accomplished in this camp. We’ll look at all of that and tell you what remains undone for the Buc as they zero in on their season opener against the Saints.

It’s a tough situation. When to play them? When to hold them? I thought Chucky did right by holding them for the last 2 games, with the rash of injuries over the last 3 years. Coughlin of the Giants played his cards the other way, Going All In against the Pats in the Final Game. That was risky, but he made a statement to everybody that day. It paid off for the Giants & they went on to the Superbowl. It was that last game that set the wheels in motion for their playoff run. He must have had complete confidence. No holds barred. Katy Bar the Door, the Pats went down. For his team, he made the right move. Gruden saw it, he knows. I think he’ll play his cards differently if the team is healthy & not on it’s last leg, like last season’s end.

PapaJohn, you know full well that if one of the older guys or someone who played a bunch, like Graham, were hurt doing one of those meaningless games, you would have joined the chorus complaining how Gruden should have shut them down.

Not that it remotely has anything to do with this year’s training camp, I’m in agreement with PapaJohn; we lost our Mo last year, when we gave away the last three games of the season, because the Giants were beatable the first round of the play-offs. Who knows what could have been?

I hope IF the 9-10 games by Dec. they don’t begin sitting their starters.
No matter the spin Gruden put on it, that was a miserable decision last year and to pay full ticket prices to see backups play the final month was ridiculous.

I think you will see more veterans with play a little more time. Then I think Tampa will loof at some of these players who surprise everyone more this week. Because I think that Tampa may decide to keep some of these new players over some that’s been here. Go Bucs. I hope they do well Sunday Nite, I know the crowd will be there, I just wish I could attend. But there is always the future.

And the ONLY reason the Giants played all their starters the last game WAS because it was against the PATS. That was a perfect set up for them. To have a good practice game against the supposelly favorites to win the SB. Before they would have to face them in the playoffs. It worked out perfect for them. You couldn’t ask for a better line up for them...starting with the last game of the season.
