TAMPA – Tampa Bay Buccaneers rookie running back LeGarrette Blount could make his regular-season NFL debut today when the Buccaneers face the Steelers at Raymond James Stadium.
With fellow running back Kareem Huggins still nursing a sore ankle the Bucs activated both Blount and running back Kregg Lumpkin, two players they obtained off waivers shortly after NFL teams reduced their rosters to the 53-man limit.
Huggins and wide receiver Maurice Stovall were the most notable of the Bucs players de-activated for Sunday’s game. The others are QB Rudy Carpenter, CB Myron Lewis, LB Niko Koutouvides, C/G Ted Larsen and DL Michael Bennett.
Blount, an Oregon product, went undrafted but was signed by the Tennessee Titans. He was released during the Titans final roster cutdown and immediately claimed by the Bucs.
Lumpkin, a second-year pro, was let by the Packers during their final roster cutdown. He was activated a week ago when Huggins missed his first game of the year with a sore ankle.
