Apparently, playing quarterback against the Bucs translates into a quick trip to the bench. Neither of the quarterbacks who started against the Bucs so far this season made it to his next start.
Carolina coach John Fox announced Monday rookie Jimmy Clausen will start Sunday for the Panthers against the Cincinnati Bengals. Clausen takes over for Matt Moore, who started against the Bucs but was benched in the fourth quarter after being sacked by linebacker Quincy Black. Moore was 6 of 16 for 125 yards with one interception.
In Week 1, Cleveland quarterback Jake Delhomme injured an ankle against the Bucs and was unable to start Sunday’s loss to Kansas City, yielding to Seneca Wallace.
This week, Tampa Bay faces the Pittsburgh Steelers, who could start either Charlie Batch or Byron Leftwich. Dennis Dixon started Sunday’s win against the Tennessee Titans, but left with a knee injury.
Franchise quarterback Ben Roethlisberger is suspended the first four games of the season, so we’ll see which Steelers quarterback starts against Tampa Bay, let alone makes it to Week 4.
