Bucs Appear To Have Interest In Supplemental Draft Prize Unga

TAMPA – The Bucs were among the nearly two dozen teams that watched BYU running back Harvey Unga work out in Provo Utah earlier this week.

The Bucs were also among the teams that sought Unga out after the workout and spent time with him, according to reports from Provo.

What all this means is hard to know, but we do know the Bucs are interested in bolstering their running back corps and it seems Unga could help them.

Though he ran for a school-record 3,455 yards during his time at BYU, Unga is considered by most scouts to be a fullback prospect.

That’s something the Bucs could use, what with Earnest Graham being all but forced to top the depth chart there.

The Bucs also have Chris Pressley at fullback, and they have high hopes for him but Pressley was never quite the runner that Unga has been.

Unga is a power back who could prove to be a short-yardage option as well as a pass-catching fullback in the Bucs system.

The Bucs can’t just go out and sign Unga, though. They’ll have to bid for him as he’s opted to enter the 2010 Supplemental draft.

By the way, if you’re wondering why Unga has opted for the supplemental draft, it’s because he’s been suspended from BYU until January, 2011.

The suspension is believed to stem from the fact that Unga’s fiancée, former BYU basketball player Keilani Moeaki, gave birth to a baby boy on July 4.
